PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology which precisely determines whether a circulation pump is normal or in failure at the start of a fuel cell system.

SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is provided with a circulation pump which is installed on a fuel gas circulation passage and circulates fuel gas, a pump temperature detection part to detect pump temperatures of the circulation pump, a warming-up means to warm up the circulation pump, a pump control part to drive the circulation pump, and a failure determination part to determine a failure of the circulation pump. At the time of starting the fuel cell system, when the pump temperature detected by the pump temperature detection part is lower than the melting point of water, the warming-up means warms up the circulation pump, and the pump control part drives the circulation pump. The failure determination part determines that the circulation pump is in failure, when the pump temperature of the circulation pump is the melting point or higher of water and the number of revolution of the circulation pump is smaller than the prescribed number of revolution.

【課題】燃料電池システムの起動時において、循環ポンプが正常なのか、故障なのかを正確に判定する技術を提供すること。
【解決手段】燃料電池システムであって、燃料ガス循環流路上に設けられ、燃料ガスを循環させるための循環ポンプと、循環ポンプのポンプ温度を検知するポンプ温度検知部と、循環ポンプを暖機する暖機手段と、循環ポンプを駆動するポンプ制御部と、循環ポンプの故障を判定するための故障判定部と、を備え、燃料電池システムの起動時において、ポンプ温度検知部の検知したポンプ温度が水の融点未満の場合に、暖機手段が循環ポンプを暖機させると共に、ポンプ制御部が循環ポンプを駆動させ、故障判定部は、循環ポンプのポンプ温度が水の融点以上の場合であって、循環ポンプの回転数が所定回転数未満の場合に、循環ポンプが故障していると判定する。
