A method for the production of a mono calcium phosphate (MCP) product includes the step of rapidly dispersing unslaked lime in an aqueous solution of phosphoric acid (e.g H 3 PO 4 ). in a mixing zone (30) to form a generally homogeneous reaction mixture. These ingredients are then allowed to react together until the reaction mixture reaches a predetermined temperature (e.g. 85-95‹C). The mixture is then rapidly transferred to a reaction zone (34,36) where the reaction is then allowed to proceed essentially to completion to form the MCP product which is then isolated.
