Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur thermischen Behandlung von körnigen Feststoffen in einem Reaktor (1) mit Wirbelschicht, bei dem Mikrowellenstrahlung aus einer Mikrowellen-Quelle (2) in den Reaktor (1) eingespeist wird, sowie eine entsprechende Anlage. Um die Energieausnutzung und die Einspeisung der Mikrowellenstrahlung zu verbessern, wird ein erstes Gas oder Gasgemisch von unten durch ein vorzugsweise zentrales Gaszufuhrrohr (3) in eine Wirbelmischkammer (7) des Reaktors eingeführt, wobei das Gaszufuhrrohr (3) wenigstens teilweise von einer durch Zufuhr von Fluidisierungsgas fluidisierten, stationären Ringwirbelschicht (8) umgeben wird. Die Mikrowellenstrahlung wird dabei der Wirbelmischkammer (7) durch dasselbe Gaszufuhrrohr (3) zugeführt.
