A process for the continuous casting of slabs or other metal products of elongate cross section, especially made of steel, is presented in which a molten metal is poured into a cooled mould (10), the product (14) solidified on the outside is continuously extracted from the mould and guided into a secondary cooling zone (12) downstream of said mould (10). To obtain a cast product exhibiting predominantly equiaxed solidification, the product (14) extracted from the mould (10) is subjected to electromagnetic stirring in the zero segment (20) of the secondary cooling zone (12) by means of at least two roll stirrers (24) incorporated into said zero segment, wherein the two roll stirrers (24) is disposed within the support roll (22) group and generate sliding magnetic field in the same direction.
