(EN) A fiber optic sensor mat detects movement of a person on the mat, which causes micro-bending of the optical cable, which is disposed into a pair of symmetrical radial ring sets within the mat. No intersection or cable overlap within the symmetric radial ring set pair results in fiber wear and noise readings. Micro-bending of the optical cable pressed into the grid modulates the received light intensity, and then analyzes the light intensity by convolution with a dobesibdB5 wavelet and a scaling function to extract respiratory and cardiac ballistocardiogram (BCG) waveforms. Wherein the reconstructed 4-level detail waveform is used as the extracted BCG output, and the reconstructed 6-level approximate waveform is used as the extracted respiratory waveform output. Respiratory rates and heartrates and changes may be generated from the extracted waveforms. Accordingly, respiratory rate and heart rate are generated using an integrated fast wavelet transform (FWT) of dB5 wavelets.
