The invention relates to a sheathed glow plug (10) for a self-igniting internal combustion engine and to a method for producing a sheathed glow plug (10). The sheathed glow plug (10) has a housing (20), a terminal contact (22) which is at least partly arranged in the housing (20), and at least one glow tube (30) which is indirectly connected to the housing (20). The glow tube (30) is closed at the glow tube end (31) remote from the housing (20). The glow tube (30) is equipped with a heating coil (32) which can be connected to the terminal contact (22). At least one of the components (20, 22, 30, 32) mentioned in the preamble or a functional unit (40) consisting of two or more of the components (20, 22, 30, 32) mentioned in the preamble is produced using a rapid prototyping method.
