THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
1. An ammonium compound of the general formula (1)

-(C3H5O)ClH, -(C2H4O)C2H
R2, R3, R7, R3 = identically or differently a straightchain or branched alkyl or alkylene radical of 1-18 carbon atoms
R4, R6 = -(CH2-CHR9-O)a-(CH2-CHR10-O)b- where R9R10 =
H or -CH3, a, b = identically or differently 0-10
R5 = radical of the dimerized fatty acid x, y = O and/or NH
A-B- = identically or differently the anion of a water-soluble monobasic or polybasic inorganic or organic acid such as methylsulfuric acid, ethylsulfuric acid, a halohydric acid, phosphoric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid and in particular hydrochloric acid
and lactic acid and the total number of negative charges in the molecule is equal to the total number of positive charges k, n = identically or differently 2-4
C1, C2 = identically or differently 1-5 1, m = identically or differently 0 or 1 with 1 = 0 when x = NH and m = 0 when y = NH.
2. An ammonium compound as claimed in claim 1, wherein R1 is identically or differently H or -CH3,
R2, 3, 7, 8 is the methyl radical,
R5 is the radical of the dimerized fatty acid having a dimer content of ? 80% by weight, k, n = 2 or 3, l and m = 0 and A- and B- are identically or differently the lactate radical or the methosulfate radical. 3. An aqueous final-rinse fabric softener comprising
A) from 5 to 30% by weight of at least one of the compounds of the general formula 1

R2, R3, R7, R8 = identically or differently a straightchain or branched alkyl or alkylene radical of 1-18 carbon atoms
R4, R6 = -(CH2-CHR9-O)a-(CH2-CHR10-O)b- where R9R10 =
H or -CH3, a, b = identically or differently 0-10
R5 = radical of the dimerized fatty acid x, y = O and/or NH
A-B- = identically or differently the anion of a water-soluble monobasic or polybasic inorganic or organic acid such as methylsulfuric acid, ethylsulfuric acid, a halohydric acid, phosphoric acid, formic acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid and in particular hydrochloric acid and lactic acid and the total number of negative charges in the molecule is equal to the total number of positive charges k, n = identically or differently 2-4
C1, C2 = identically or differently 1-5 l, m = identically or differently 0 or 1 with 1 = 0 when x = NH and m = 0 when y = NH and to 100% by weight
B) water, dyes, perfume, thickeners and customary auxiliary and additive substances.
4. An aqueous final-rinse fabric conditioner as claimed in claim 3, wherein in the general formula (1) R1
is identically or differently H or -CH3, R2, 3, 7, 8 is the methyl radical,
R5 is the radical of the dimerized fatty acid having a dimer content of ? 80% by weight, k, n = 2 or 3, l and m = 0 and A- and B- are identically or differently the lactate radical or the methosulfate radical.
5. A process for preparing a compound of the general formula (1)

where R1-R8, x, y, A-, B-, k, l, m and n are each as defined above, wherein the prim./tert. amine or the alkanolamine is esterified or amidated in the presence of acid catalysts such as methanesulfonic acid or hypophosphorous acid under nitrogen at 140-200°C and the resulting condensate is continuously distilled off, if necessary under reduced pressure in the final stage.
6. An aqueous hair cleaning and conditioning composition comprising a) 0.5-10 parts by weight of at least one of the compounds of the general formula (1) b) 1.0-20 parts by weight of at least one nonionic,
amphoteric, zwitterionic, ionic surfactant c) 0.1-10 parts by weight of thickener, scents, preservatives, dyes, plant extracts and other additive and auxiliary substances, and d) ad 100 water.
7. An aqueous shower and hair shampoo comprising a) 0.5-10 parts by weight of the compounds of the general formula (1) where
R5 is the radical of the dimerized fatty acid having a dimer content of 2 80% by weight, k, n = 2 or 3, 1 and m = 0 and A- and B- are identically or differently the lactate radical or the methosulfate radical, b) 1.0-10 parts by weight of at least one nonionic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, ionic surfactant c) 0.1-5 parts by weight of thickener, scents, preservatives, dyes, plant extracts and other additive and auxiliary substances, and d) ad 100 water.
8. An aqueous hair conditioning composition comprising a) 1-7 parts by weight of the compounds of the general formula (1) where
R5 is the radical of the dimerized fatty acid having a dimer content of 2 80% by weight, k, n = 2 or 3, 1 and m = 0 and A- and B- are identically or differently the lactate radical or the methosulfate radical.
b) 1.0-20 parts by weight of at least one nonionic, amphoteric, zwitterionic, ionic surfactant c) 0.1-5 parts by weight of thickener, scents, preservatives, dyes, plant extracts and other additive and auxiliary substances, and d) ad 100 water.
