Method for the production of substrates comprising a layer consisting of inorganic gel, glass, vitroceramic or ceramic material, according to which a coating composition containing nanoscalar particles and water-soluble organic flexibilizers is applied to the substrate and is thermally treated. Said method allows transparent thick films which are devoid of cracks to be obtained. The coated substrates are particularly suitable for use as optical, optoelectronic, electronic, micromechanical or dirt-repellent components.
