The invention relates to a sprung mechanical device that prevents backing-off, capable of connecting or disconnecting a control hand wheel (4) and a motor acting on the same rotation spindle, comprising a cylindrical spring (7, 16), a cylinder (9, 17) mounted so that it can rotate on the rotation spindle, it being possible for the said spring to rotate with the said cylinder, the turns of the spring being in contact with the surface of the cylinder and the ends being able to come into contact with the said hand wheel. The ends of the spring (7, 16) are bent inwards or outwards, the said hand wheel (4) can act on the curvature of one or other of the ends of the spring (7, 16) and the rotation of the spring (7, 16) is limited by an end stop butting against one or other of the ends of the spring. Application to valves with manual control and motorized control fitted to fluid-carrying pipelines.
