WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. A chemical composition, comprising:

where R, independently, comprises H or CH2CH3, or (CH2)3CH3, or (CH2)5CH3, or (CH2)7CH3, or any combination thereof

2. An antimicrobial compound comprising the composition of claim 1

3. The antimicrobial compound of claim 2, that is capable of inhibiting or reducing the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.

4. The antimicrobial compound of claim 2, that is capable of inhibiting or reducing the growth of methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus by at least 1-Log CFU.

5. The antimicrobial compound of claim 2, that is capable of inhibiting or reducing the growth of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus by at least 1-Log CFU.

6. The antimicrobial compound of claim 3, wherein R is (CH2)3CH3.

7. The antimicrobial compound of claim 4, wherein R is (CH2)3CH3.

8. The antimicrobial compound of claim 5, wherein R is (CH2)3CH3.

9. A method of treating an infected human being and/or animal comprising: topically administering the composition of claim 4 to said human being and/or animal.

10. A method of treating an infected human being and/or animal comprising:

topically administering the composition of claim 5 to said human being and/or animal.

11. A method of treating skin or soft tissue infections comprising, topically administering the composition of claim 5 to said skin or said soft tissue at a dose of from about 0.3 mg/kg to about 300 mg/kg.

12. A method of treating an infected wound comprising, topically administering the composition of claim 5 to said infected wound at a dose of from about 0.3 mg/kg to about 300 mg/kg.

13. A method of treating skin or soft tissue infection comprising intravenously, administrating the composition of claim 5 to said skin or said soft tissue at a dose of from about 0.3 mg/kg to about 300 mg/kg.

14. A method of treating an infected wound comprising intravenously administering the composition of claim 5 to said infected wound at a dose of from about 0.3 mg/kg to about 300 mg/kg.

15. A method of treating skin or a soft tissue infections comprising topically administering to said skin or said soft tissue the composition of claim 5 in combination with one or more of a clinical antibiotic comprising oxacillin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, or daptomycin.

18. A method of treating an infected wound comprising topically administering the composition of claim 5 to said infected wound in combination with one or more of a clinical antibiotic comprising oxacillin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, or daptomycin.

17. A method of treating skin or a soft tissue infections comprising intravenously administering to said skin or said soft tissue the composition of claim 5 in combination

with one or more of a clinical antibiotic comprising oxacillin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, or daptomycin.

18. A method of treating an infected wound comprising intravenously administering to

said infected wound the composition of claim 5 in combination with one or more of a clinical antibiotic comprising oxacillin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, vancomycin, or daptomycin
