(EN) Disclosed is a directly effective, switchable cam follower (1) for a valve drive of an internal combustion engine, comprising a housing (3) that is provided with an axial cavity (2) inside which an inner element (4) is enclosed, said inner element (4) being movable in an axial direction relative to the housing (3). The housing (3) and the inner element (4) can be coupled to each other in a relative axial position to each other via coupling means (5). A piston (7) comprising an inner sleeve section (8) is fastened within a transversal bore (6) of the inner element (4). An outer sleeve section (9) of said piston (7) engages into a long hole (10) of the housing (3) in order to prevent torsion thereof relative to the inner element (4). One end (11) of the long hole (10) forms a top stop for a facing contact area (12) of the outer sleeve section (9) so as to define the relative position. According to the invention, at least the contact area (12) of the outer sleeve section (9) of the piston (7) is produced so as to expand or taper in a conical manner while the upper end (11) of the long hole (10) of the housing (3) is beveled in a manner that is similar thereto. The piston (7) is fixed within the transversal bore (6) in the area of the inner sleeve section (8) thereof via a screw-type connection (13).
