Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A wireless communication device (10) for a vehicle (100), the wireless communica tion device (10) comprising:

a transceiver module (12) for communicating with a further wireless communication device (20);

a control module (14) configured to:

scan one or more wireless communication channels for advertisement packets, receive an advertisement packet from the further wireless communication device (20), adjust a duty cycle of the scan for the advertisement packets for a pre-defmed time interval in response to receiving the advertisement packet.

The wireless communication device according to claim 1, wherein the control mod ule is configured to transmit a connection request to the further wireless communica tion device (20) in response to receiving the advertisement packet, wherein the duty cycle of the scan for the advertisement packets is adjusted, if the further wireless communication device (20) is deemed to not have received the connection request.

3. The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 or 2, wherein the duty cycle of the scan is increased in response to receiving the advertisement packet.

4. The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 3, wherein the duty cycle of the scan is adjusted based on a received signal strength of the ad vertisement packet.

The wireless communication device according to claim 4, wherein the duty cycle of the scan is adjusted if a comparison between the received signal strength of the ad- vertisement packet and a received signal strength of a previously received advertise ment packet of the further wireless communication device (20) indicates that the fur ther wireless communication device (20) is approaching the wireless communication device.

The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 4 or 5, wherein the duty cycle of the scan is adjusted if a comparison between the received signal strength of the advertisement packet and a received signal strength of a previously received advertisement packet of the further wireless communication device (20) in dicates that the further wireless communication device (20) is at most a second pre defined time interval away from reaching the wireless communication device, and/or wherein the duty cycle of the scan is adjusted if the received signal strength of the advertisement packet indicates that a distance between the wireless communi cation device and the further wireless communication device (20) is lower than a dis tance threshold.

7. The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 6, wherein the pre-defmed time interval is between at least 5 seconds and/or at most 30 seconds long.

8. The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 7, wherein a transmission signal strength of the wireless communication device is lower than a transmission signal strength of the further wireless communication device (20).

9. The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 8, wherein the advertisement packet is a directed advertisement packet, and/or wherein the fur ther wireless communication device (20) is paired with the wireless communication device.

The wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 9, wherein the transceiver module (12) is configured to communicate with the further wireless communication device (20) using a Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocol, and/or wherein the advertisement packet is a Bluetooth Low Energy advertisement packet.

11. The wireless communication device according to claim 10, wherein the wireless communication device is a central device according to the Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocol, and wherein the further wireless communication device (20) is a peripheral device according to the Bluetooth Low Energy communication protocol.

12. A vehicle comprising the wireless communication device according to one of the claims 1 to 11.

13. A method for a wireless communication device (10) of a vehicle (100), the method comprising:

scanning (210) one or more wireless communication channels for advertisement pack ets;

receiving (220) an advertisement packet from a further wireless communication de vice (20);

adjusting (240) a duty cycle of the scan for the advertisement packets for a pre-defmed time interval in response to receiving the advertisement packet.

14. The method according to claim 13, further comprising transmitting (230) a connec tion request to the further wireless communication device (20) in response to receiv ing the advertisement packet, wherein the duty cycle of the scan for the advertise ment packets is adjusted, if the further wireless communication device (20) is deemed to not have received the connection request.

15. A computer program having a program code for performing the method of claim 13 or 14, when the computer program is executed on a computer, a processor, or a pro grammable hardware component.
