Claims

1. A method of increasing expression of a transgene in a plant comprising:
selecting a protein active in PTGS in the plant; and
transforming the plant with a nucleic acid encoding the protein active in PTGS, wherein expression of the protein active in PTGS increases expression of the transgene in the plant.
2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the protein active in PTGS comprises a protein having an amino acid sequence of SEQ.ID.NO. 2.
3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the protein active in PTGS has a sequence with at least 78% identity with the amino acid sequence of SEQ.ID.NO. 2.
4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the protein active in PTGS comprises Sorghum Mosaic Virus (SrMV) P1/HC-Pro.
5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the nucleic acid encoding the protein comprises a nucleic acid having a sequence of SEQ.ID.NO. 1 or a sequence of a degenerate code homolog of SEQ.ID.NO. 1.
6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the nucleic acid encoding the protein comprises a nucleic acid having a sequence with at least 85% identify with the sequence of SEQ.ID.NO. 1.
7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the transgene is not involved in PTGS.
8. The method according to claim 1, wherein the transgene is suppressed by PTGS.
9. The method according to claim 1, wherein the plant is a monocot.
10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the monocot is sugarcane.
11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the monocot is corn.
12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the monocot is sorghum.
13. The method according to claim 9, wherein the monocot is rice.
14. The method according to claim 9, wherein the plant is an embryonic callus.
15. The method according to claim 9, wherein the plant is a mature plant.
16. A method of increasing expression of a transgene in a plant comprising:
transforming the plant with a nucleic acid having a sequence with at least 85% identify with the sequence of SEQ. ID. NO. 1, and encoding a protein active in PTGS having a sequence with at least 78% identity with the amino acid sequence of SEQ.ID.NO. 2.,
wherein expression of the protein active in PTGS increases expression of the transgene in the plant.
17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the transgene is not involved in PTGS.
18. The method according to claim 16, wherein the transgene is suppressed by PTGS.
19. The method according to claim 16, wherein the plant is a monocot.
20. The method according to claim 19, wherein the monocot is selected from the group consisting of sugarcane, corn, sorghum, and rice.
