Patent claims

1. An apparatus (1) for measuring and recording the quantity of a medicament remaining in a medicament dosing device (2),

which medicament dosing device contains:

- a liquid container (22) that contains the medicament to be dispensed;

- a plunger (23) that resides inside the liquid container (22) and is movable; and

- a dispense end, through which the medicament to be dispensed can be expelled out from the liquid container (22) by the aid of the plunger (23); and which apparatus (1) contains:

- a location, into which the medicament dosing device can be inserted; and

- combined with that location equipment for measuring and analysing;

characterised in that

the equipment for measuring and analysing comprise:

- a contact image sensor (3) placed in combination with the location for the medicament dosing device; and

- a software in connection with the contact image sensor.

2. An apparatus (1) according to claim 1 containing also electronics and/or a power source.

3. An apparatus (1) according to claim 1 having also a lid that functions as a switch for the supply voltage of the apparatus, the supply voltage taken advantageously from an internal power supply of the apparatus or from an external power source connected to the apparatus.

4. An apparatus (1) according to claim 1 utilising a contact image sensor (3) for capturing a longitudinal, advantageously one or more pixels wide image, or in other words a colour curve, of the medicament dosing device (2).

5. An apparatus (1) according to claim 4 utilising a contact image sensor (3) for recognizing the colour of the end of the medicament dosing device, from which colour the type of the medicament can be concluded.

6. An apparatus (1) according to claims 4 or 5, wherein the software has means for calculating from the colour curves the position of the plunger (23) of the

medicament dosing device (2) in respect of the liquid container (22).

7. An apparatus (1) according to any of the above mentioned claims, wherein the software has means for calculating and recording the quantity of the remaining medicament in the liquid container (22) of a medicament dosing device (2).

8. An apparatus (1) according to claim 7, having equipment for fetching the formerly recorded quantities of the medicament and for calculating the dispensed doses.

9. An apparatus (1) according to any of the above mentioned claims, having a display (7) for viewing the quantity information of the dispensed medicament to the user.

10. An apparatus (1) according to any of the above mentioned claims for a medicament dosing device (2), wherein the utilised medicament dosing device (2) is an injection syringe or an insulin pen.

11. An apparatus (1) according to any of the above mentioned claims, wherein the apparatus (1) can be realised in the storage case of a medicament dosing device (2), the storage case fitting in a pocket.

12. A method for measuring and recording the quantity of a medicament remaining in a medicament dosing device (2), in which method a medicament dosing device (2) is inserted into a location in the apparatus (1), the medicament dosing device (2) comprising:

- a liquid container (22) that contains the medicament to be dispensed;

- a plunger (23) that resides inside the liquid container (22) and is movable; and

- a dispense end, through which the medicament to be dispensed can be expelled out from the liquid container (22) by the aid of the plunger (23); and which apparatus (1) contains:

- a location, into which one or more medicament dosing devices can be

inserted; and

- combined with that location equipment for measuring and analysing;

characterised in that

in this method the quantity of the medicament is measured and analysed by the aid of a contact image sensor (3) and software.
