CLAIMS
What is claimed is:

1. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
a fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to adjust a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically designate a buyer, associated with a maximum bid for the listing, as a winner of the listing upon adjusting the fixed price offer, wherein the maximum bid is greater than the adjusted fixed price offer.

The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the adjusting the fixed price offer includes lowering the fixed price offer below a reserve price.

The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the buyer is
automatically designated as the winner if the buyer has opted into an automatic win arrangement.

The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to receive a request to adjust the predefined fixed price offer from a buyer.

5. The network-based commerce system of claim 4, wherein the adjustment is based on the request.

The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the adjustment
includes raising the predefined fixed price offer.

7. The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to notify a buyer of the adjustment of the predefined fixed price offer.

8. The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to present the adjusted fixed price offer to a buyer.

The network-based commerce system of claim 1, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify a relevant party when a proxy bid and the reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

10. The network-based commerce system of claim 9, wherein the relevant party includes at least one of a buyer, a seller, and a watcher.

11. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
a fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to publish a buyer proposal price in connection with a listing for an item of a network based auction.

12. The network-based commerce system of claim 11 , wherein the buyer proposal price is below a reserve price.

13. The network-based commerce system of claim 11 , wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to receive an indication from a seller of the item that the buyer proposed price is acceptable.

14. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to adjust a reserve price associated with a listing of an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

15. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the adjustment of the reserve price includes lowering the reserve price.

16. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the adjustment of the reserve price includes removing the reserve price.

17. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the adjustment of the reserve price includes raising the reserve price.

18. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the auction price- setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify a seller of the item when a high proxy bid is within a predetermined percentage range of the adjusted reserve price.

19. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the auction price- setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify a seller of the item when a high proxy bid is within a predetermined value range of the reserve price.

20. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the auction price- setting process further causes the processor to lower a proxy bid, of a buyer higher than the adjusted reserve price, to a predetermined amount below the adjusted reserve price.

21. The network-based commerce system of claim 14, wherein the auction price- setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify one or more bidders of the adjustment of the reserve price.

22. A network-based commerce system includes:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to facilitate a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

23. The network-based commerce system of claim 22, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically transmit the request to the seller when a maximum bid is within a predetermined percentage range of a reserve price.

24. The network-based commerce system of claim 22, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically transmit the request to the seller when a proxy bid is within a predetermined percentage range of a reserve price.

25. The network-based commerce system of claim 22, wherein the request includes information of a closing price of a similar listing.

26. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to automatically designate a bidder to be a winner of a listing for an item upon adjusting a predefined reserve price for the listing to below a maximum bid submitted by the bidder for the item.

27. The network-based commerce system of claim 26, wherein the auction price- setting process further causes the processor to receive an indication from the bidder of a willingness to accept being designated as a winner of the listing upon the adjustment of the fixed price offer below the maximum bid.

28. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to notify automatically a relevant party when a proxy bid and a reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

29. The network-based commerce system of claim 28, wherein the relevant party includes at least one of a buyer, a seller, and a watcher.

30. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to operate a network-based commerce system, the method including:
adjusting a predefined fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process automatically designating a buyer,
associated with a maximum bid for the listing, as a winner of the listing upon adjusting the fixed price offer, wherein the maximum bid is greater than the adjusted fixed price offer.

31. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, wherein the adjusting the fixed price
offer includes lowering the fixed price offer below a reserve price.

32. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, wherein the buyer is automatically
designated as the winner if the buyer has opted into an automatic win
arrangement.

33. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, further including:
receiving a request to adjust the predefined fixed price offer from a buyer.

34. The machine-readable medium of claim 33, wherein the adjustment is based on
the request.

35. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, wherein adjusting includes raising
the predefined fixed price offer.

36. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, further including:
notifying a buyer of the adjustment of the predefined fixed price offer.

37. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, further including:
presenting the adjusted fixed price offer to a buyer.

38. The machine-readable medium of claim 30, further including:
automatically notifying a relevant party when a proxy bid and the reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

39. The machine-readable medium of claim 38, wherein the relevant party includes at least one of a buyer, a seller, and a watcher.

40. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate a network-based auction, the method including:
presenting a buyer proposal price in connection with a listing for an item of a network based auction.

41. The machine-readable medium of claim 40, where the buyer proposal price is below a reserve price.

42. The machine-readable medium of claim 40, further including:
receiving an indication from a seller of the item that the buyer proposed price is acceptable.

43. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
adjusting a predefined reserve price associated with a listing of an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

44. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, wherein adjusting the reserve price includes lowering the reserve price.

45. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, wherein the adjusting the reserve price includes removing the reserve price.

46. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, wherein the adjusting the reserve price includes raising the reserve price.

47. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, including automatically notifying a seller of the item when a high proxy bid is within a predetennined percentage range of the adjusted reserve price.

48. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, including automatically notifying a seller of the item when a high proxy bid is within a predetermined value range of the reserve price.

49. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, including lowering a proxy bid, of a buyer higher than the adjusted reserve price, to a predetermined amount below the adjusted reserve price.

50. The machine-readable medium of claim 43, further including: notifying automatically one or more bidders of the adjustment of the reserve price.

51. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method of facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including:
facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item within the network-based auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

52. The machine-readable medium of claim 51 , including automatically transmitting the request to the seller when a maximum bid is within a predetermined
percentage range of a reserve price.

53. The machine-readable medium of claim 51 , including automatically transmitting the request to the seller when a proxy bid is within a predetennined percentage range of a reserve price.

54. The machine-readable medium of claim 51 , wherein the request includes
information of a closing price of a similar listing.

55. A machine-readable medium of facilitating operation of a network-based
commerce system, the method including:
automatically designating a buyer to be a winner of a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process upon adjusting a predefined reserve price for the listing to below a maximum bid submitted by the buyer for the item.

56. The machine-readable medium of claim 55, further including:
receiving an indication from the buyer of a willingness to accept being designated as a winner of the listing upon the adjustment of the predefined fixed price offer below the maximum bid.

57. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method of facilitating operation of a network-based commerce system, the
method including:
notifying automatically a relevant party when a proxy bid and a reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

58. The machine-readable medium of claim 57, wherein the relevant party includes at least one of a buyer, a seller, and a watcher.

59. A method to operate a network-based commerce system, the method including:
adjusting a predefined fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process automatically designating a buyer, associated with a maximum bid for the listing, as a winner of the listing upon adjusting the fixed price offer, wherein the maximum bid is greater than the adjusted fixed price offer.

60. The method of claim 59, wherein the adjusting the fixed price offer includes
lowering the fixed price offer below a reserve price.

61. A method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the
method including:
adjusting a predefined reserve price associated with a listing of an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

62. The method of claim 61, wherein adjusting the reserve price includes lowering the reserve price.

63. A method of facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the
method including:
facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item within the network-based auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

64. The method of claim 63, including automatically transmitting the request to the seller when a maximum bid is within a predetennined percentage range of a
reserve price.

65. The method of claim 63, including automatically transmitting the request to the seller when a proxy bid is within a predetermined percentage range of a reserve price.

66. The method of claim 63, wherein the request includes information of a closing price of a similar listing.

67. A method of facilitating operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
automatically designating a buyer to be a winner of a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process upon adjusting a predefined reserve price for the listing to below a maximum bid submitted by the buyer for the item.

68. A method of facilitating operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
notifying automatically a relevant party when a proxy bid and a reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

69. The method of claim 68, wherein the relevant party includes at least one of a buyer, a seller, and a watcher.

70. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for adjusting a predefined fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process;
a storage means, coupled to the means for adjusting, for storing the fixed price offer; and
a means for automatically designating a buyer, associated with a maximum bid for the listing, as a winner of the listing upon adjusting the fixed price offer, wherein the maximum bid is greater than the adjusted fixed price offer.

71. The network-based commerce system of claim 70, wherein the adjusting the fixed price offer includes lowering the fixed price offer below a reserve price.

72. A network-based commerce system to facilitate a network-based auction, the system including:
a means for presenting a buyer proposal price in connection with a listing for an item of a network based auction; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for presenting, for storing the buyer proposal price.

73. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for adjusting a predefined reserve price associated with a listing of an item during a network-based auction price-setting process; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for adjusting, for storing the reserve price.

74. A network-based commerce system for facilitating a network-based auction
price-setting process, the system including:
a means for facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item within the network-based auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for facilitating, for storing the fixed price offer.

75. The network-based commerce system of claim 74, including a means for
automatically transmitting the request to the seller when a maximum bid is within a predetermined percentage range of a reserve price, the means for transmitting coupled to the storage means.

76. A network-based commerce system for facilitating a network-based auction
price-setting process, the system including:
a means for automatically designating a buyer to be a winner of a listing for an item during the network-based auction price-setting process upon adjusting a predefined fixed price offer for the listing to below a maximum bid submitted by the buyer for the item; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for automatically designating, for storing the predefined fixed price offer.

77. The network-based commerce system of claim 76, further including:
a means for receiving an indication from the buyer of a willingness to accept being designated as a winner of the listing upon the adjustment of the predefined fixed price offer below the maximum bid, the means for receiving coupled to the storage means.

78. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to automatically publish at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during an auction price-setting process.

79. The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically retract publication of the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.

The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to facilitate a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

81. The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the publication is performed during the auction price-setting process.

82. The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the publication is performed after the auction price-setting process.

83. The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify a buyer when the reserve price is published.

84. The network-based commerce system of claim 78, wherein the publication includes publishing for view by a specific bidder only.

85. A network-based commerce system for facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to facilitate an exchange of proxy information of a buyer and reserve price information of a seller, the proxy information and the reserve price information being associated with a listing utilizing the auction price-setting process.

86. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged upon conclusion of the auction price-setting process.

87. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged during the auction price-setting process.

88. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically invite at least one of the seller and the buyer to exchange the proxy and the reserve price information.

89. The network-based commerce system of claim 88, wherein at least one of the buyer and the seller is automatically invited to exchange the proxy and the reserve price information when a proxy bid associated with the seller and the reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

90. The network-based commerce system of claim 89, wherein the predetermined proximity is within twenty percent of each other.
91. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the exchange of information is a secured exchange of information.

92. The network-based commerce system of claim 88, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing.

93. The network-based commerce system of claim 88, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing before the auction price-setting process.

94. The network-based commerce system of claim 88, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing after the auction price-setting process.

95. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the exchange is performed by automatically publishing at least one of the proxy information and the reserve price information.

The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to facilitate a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

97. The network-based commerce system of claim 85, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to notify automatically the buyer when the reserve price has been published.

98. A network-based commerce system to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, and the network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to facilitate display of a reserve price of a listing an item in connection with an auction price-setting process to a seller, the seller being one of a plurality of sellers.

99. A network-based commerce system to facilitate a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
an auction price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to communicate a plurality of at least one of a reserve price and a fixed-price offer within the context of the auction price-setting process, wherein a specific price is communicated to a specific buyer from a seller.

100. The network-based commerce system of claim 99, wherein the at least one of the reserve price and the fixed-price offer is based on a location of the buyer.

101. The network-based commerce system of claim 99, wherein the at least one of the reserve price and the fixed-price is adjusted based on the seller.

102. The network-based commerce system of claim 99, wherein the auction price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically publish at least one a proxy bid information and a reserve price.

103. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item in an auction price-setting process; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for automatically publishing, for storing the proxy bid information and the reserve price.

104. The network-based commerce system of claim i03, further including:
a means for automatically retracting publication of the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price, the means for retracting coupled to the storage means.

The network-based commerce system of claim 103 , further including: a means for facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing, the means for facilitating coupled to the storage means.

106. A network-based commerce system for facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including
a means for facilitating an exchange of proxy information of a buyer and reserve price information of a seller, the proxy information and the reserve price information being associated with a listing of an item utilizing the auction price-setting process; and a storage means, coupled to the means for facilitating, for storing the proxy information.

107. The network-based commerce system of claim 106, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged upon conclusion of the auction price-setting process.

108. A network-based commerce system to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, and the method including:
a means for facilitating display of a reserve price of a listing in connection with an auction price-setting process to a seller; and
a storage means, coupled to the means for facilitating, for storing the reserve price.

109. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for communicating a plurality of at least one of a reserve price and a fixed-price offer within the context of the auction price-setting process, wherein a specific price is communicated to a specific buyer from a seller; and a storage means, coupled to the means for communicating, for storing the reserve price.

110. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during an auction price-setting process.

111. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, further including:
automatically retracting publication of the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.
112. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, further including:
facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

113. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, wherein the publication is performed during the auction price-setting process.

114. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, wherein the publication is performed after the auction price-setting process.

115. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, further including:
automatically notifying a buyer when the reserve price is published.

116. The machine-readable medium of claim 110, wherein the publishing includes publishing for view by a specific bidder only.

117. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method of facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including
facilitating an exchange of proxy information of a buyer and reserve price information of a seller, the proxy information and the reserve price information being associated with a listing utilizing the auction price-setting process.

118. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged upon conclusion of the auction price-setting process.
119. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged during the auction price-setting process.

120. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, further comprising:
automatically inviting at least one of the seller and the buyer to exchange the proxy and the reserve price information.

121. The machine-readable medium of claim 120, wherein at least one of the buyer and the seller is automatically invited to exchange the proxy and the reserve price information when a proxy bid associated with the seller and the reserve price are within a predetermined proximity of each other.

122. The machine-readable medium of claim 121, wherein the predetermined proximity is within twenty percent of each other.

123. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, wherein the exchange of information is a secured exchange of information.

124. The machine-readable medium of claim 120, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing.

125. The machine-readable medium of claim 120, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing before the auction price-setting process.

126. The machine-readable medium of claim 120, wherein the invitation is indicated in the listing after the auction price-setting process.

127. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, wherein the exchange is performed by automatically publishing at least one of the proxy information and the reserve price information.

128. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, further including:
facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

129. The machine-readable medium of claim 117, further including:
notifying automatically the buyer when the reserve price has been published.

130. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, and the method including:
facilitating display of a reserve price of a listing in connection with an auction price-setting process to a seller.

A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including: communicating a plurality of at least one of a reserve price or a fixed-price offer within the context of the auction price-setting process, wherein a specific price is communicated to a specific buyer from a seller.
132. The machine-readable medium of claim 131, wherein the at least one of the reserve price and the fixed-price offer is based on a location of the buyer.

133. The machine-readable medium of claim 131, wherein the at least one of the reserve price and the fixed-price is adjusted based on the seller.

134. The machine-readable medium of claim 131, further comprising:
automatically publishing at least one a proxy bid information and a reserve price.

A method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including: automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an auction price-setting process.

136. The method of claim 135, further including:
automatically retracting publication of the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.

facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a listing for an item utilizing the auction price-setting process, the request to be sent to a seller of the listing.

138. A method of facilitating a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including
facilitating an exchange of proxy infonnation of a buyer and reserve price information of a seller, the proxy information and the reserve price information being associated with a listing utilizing the auction price-setting process.

139. The method of claim 138, wherein the proxy information and the reserve price information are automatically exchanged upon conclusion of the auction price-setting process.

140. A method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, and the method including:
facilitating display of a reserve price of a listing in connection with an auction price-setting process to a seller.

141. A method to facilitate a network-based auction price-setting process, the method including:
communicating a plurality of at least one of a reserve price or a fixed-price offer within the context of the auction price-setting process, wherein a specific price is communicated to a specific buyer from a seller.

142. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
a fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to automatically publish at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

143. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the fixed price
process further causes the processor to automatically unpublishing the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.

144. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the fixed price process further causes the processor to facilitate a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a seller of the listing for the item, the request to be sent to the seller.

145. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the publication is performed during the auction price-setting process.

146. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the publication is performed after the auction price-setting process.

147. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, further comprising:
automatically notifying a buyer when the reserve price is published.

148. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor, when publishing to publish for view by a specific buyer only.

149. The network-based commerce system of claim 142, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor, when publishing to display the maximum bid amount a buyer is willing to bid to purchase an item on the listing.

150. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process; and
a means for storing the listing.

151. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

152. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, further comprising:
automatically unpublishing the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.

153. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, further comprising:
facilitating a request for an adjustment of a fixed price offer associated with a seller of the listing for the item, the request to be sent to the seller.

154. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, wherein the publication is performed during the auction price-setting process.

155. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, wherein the publication is performed after the auction price-setting process.

156. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, further comprising:
automatically notifying a buyer when the reserve price is published.

157. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, wherein the publishing includes publisliing for view by a specific buyer only.

158. The machine-readable medium of claim 151, wherein publishing includes displaying the maximum bid amount a buyer is willing to bid to purchase an item on the listing.

159. A method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
automatically publishing at least one of a proxy bid information and a reserve price if a high proxy bid is less than the reserve price, the proxy bid information and the reserve price being associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process.

160. The method of claim 159, further comprising:
automatically unpublishing the proxy bid information upon the high proxy bid exceeding the reserve price.

161. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
a fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to facilitate the operation of a network-based auction price setting process for a listing of an item, to provide a fixed price offer for the item; and to publish the fixed-price offer on the listing based on a criteria.

162. The network-based commerce system of claim 161, wherein the fixed-price offer is higher than a current highest bid.

163. The network-based commerce system of claim 161, wherein the fixed-price offer is lower than a high proxy bid.

164. The network-based commerce system of claim 163, wherein the fixed-price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically designate a buyer associated with the high proxy bid as the winner of the auctioned item.

165. The network-based commerce system of claim 164, wherein the automatic designation is performed when the buyer has opted into being designated the winner automatically.

166. The network-based commerce system of claim 163,wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor to automatically notify a buyer associated with the current high proxy bid upon the publication of the fixed price offer.

167. The network-based commerce system of claim 161 wherein the publication the fixed price offer includes the publication of the fixed price offer when a bid has reached a certain value during the auction.

168. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for facilitating the operation of a network-based auction price setting process for a listing of an item;
a means for providing a fixed price offer for the item; and
a means for publishing the fixed-price offer on the listing based on a criteria.

169. A machine-readable medium having instructions to cause a machine to perform a method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including:
facilitating the operation of a network-based auction price setting process for a listing of an item;

providing a fixed price offer for the item; and
publishing the fixed-price offer on the listing based on a criteria.

170. The machine-readable medium of claim 169, wherein the fixed-price offer is higher than a current highest bid.

171. The machine-readable medium of claim 169, wherein the fixed-price offer is lower than a high proxy bid.

172. The machine-readable medium of claim 171, further including:
automatically designating a buyer associated with the high proxy bid as the winner of the auctioned item.

173. The machine-readable medium of claim 172, wherein the automatically designating is performed when the buyer has opted into being designated the winner automatically.

174. The machine-readable medium of claim 171, further including:
automatically notifying a buyer associated with the c rent high proxy bid upon the publication of the fixed price offer.

175. The machine-readable medium of claim 169, wherein the publishing the fixed price offer includes publishing the fixed price offer when a bid has reached a certain value during the auction.

176. A method to facilitate operation of a network-based commerce system, the method including: facilitating the operation of a network-based auction price setting process for a listing of an item;
providing a fixed price offer for the item; and
publishing the fixed-price offer on the listing based on a criteria.

177. The method of claim 176, wherein the fixed-price offer is higher than a cunent highest bid.

178. A network-based commerce system including:
a processor coupled to a memory through a bus; and
a fixed price-setting process executed from the memory by the processor to cause the processor to receive a question associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process, and to provide an answer to the question via a communications network.

179. The network-based commerce system of claim 178, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor, when providing the answer to publish the question and the answer on the listing for the item.

180. The network-based commerce system of claim 178, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor, when providing the answer to provide the answer to the question via an electronic mail message over the communications network.

181. The network-based commerce system of claim 178, wherein the fixed price-setting process further causes the processor, when the receiving the question to receive the question from a bidder over the communications network.

182. A network-based commerce system including:
a means for receiving a question associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process; and
a means for providing an answer to the question via a communications network.

183. The network-based commerce system of claim 182, wherein the means for providing includes publishing the question and the answer on the listing for the item.

receiving a question associated with a listing for an item during a network-based auction price-setting process; and
providing an answer to the question via a communications network.
