CLAIMS:

We claim:

1. An adhesive composition, comprising:

(a) a propylene-based elastomer comprising at least 60 wt% of propylene-derived units and from 2 wt% to 40 wt% of a C2 and/or a C4-C20 a-olefin-derived units based on a total weight of the propylene-based elastomer, and having a melting temperature of less than 110ºC, a heat of fusion of less than 75 J/g, and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of less than 100,000 g/mol;

(b) a polyethylene wax having a density of greater than 0.940 g/cm3, a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of from 3,000 g/mol to 30,000 g/mol, and a crystallization temperature of greater than 100ºC;

(c) a tackifier; and

(d) optionally a polypropylene wax.

2. The adhesive composition of claim 1, wherein the propylene-based elastomer has the weight average molecular weight of less than 50,000 g/mol.

3. The adhesive composition of claim 1 or 2, wherein the propylene-based elastomer has a melt viscosity, measured according to method ASTM D-3236 at 190ºC, of less than 15,000 mPa·s.

4. The adhesive composition of claims 1 or 2, wherein the propylene-based elastomer has a melt viscosity, measured according to method ASTM D-3236 at 190ºC, of from 250 mPa·s to 10,000 mPa·s.

5. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-4, wherein the propylene-based elastomer has a melt flow rate, measured according to ASTM D-1238 at 230ºC and 2.16 kg, of greater than 250 dg/min.

6. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-5, wherein the propylene-based elastomer comprises from 83 wt% to 97 wt% of propylene-derived units and from 3 wt% to 17 wt% ethylene-derived units based on the total weight of the propylene-based elastomer.

7. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-6, wherein the propylene-based elastomer is present in the adhesive composition in an amount of from 65 wt% to 95 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

8. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-7, wherein the polyethylene wax has the weight average molecular weight of greater than 6,000 g/mol to 25,000 g/mol.

9. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-7, wherein the polyethylene wax has the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of from 10,000 g/mol to 20,000 g/mol.

10. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-7, wherein the polyethylene wax has the weight average molecular weight of about 14,000 g/mol.

11. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-10, wherein the polyethylene wax has a PDI of from 2 to 5.

12. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-11, wherein the polyethylene wax has a density of greater than 0.95 g/cm3.

13. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-12, wherein the polyethylene wax is a high density polyethylene.

14. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-13, wherein the polyethylene wax has the crystallization temperature of greater than 110ºC.

15. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-13, wherein the polyethylene wax has the crystallization temperature of from 110ºC to 120ºC.

16. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-13, wherein the polyethylene wax has the crystallization temperature of about 115ºC.

17. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-16, wherein the polyethylene wax is present in an amount of from about 1 wt% to about 25 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

18. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-16, wherein the polyethylene wax is present in an amount of from 5 wt% to about 15 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

19. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-16, wherein the polyethylene wax is present in an amount of about 3 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

20. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-16, wherein the polyethylene wax is present in an amount of about 10 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

21. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-20, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the tackifier, the tackifier comprises a hydrocarbon resin.

22. The adhesive composition of claim 21, wherein the hydrocarbon resin comprises an aliphatic hydrocarbon resin, a hydrogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon resin, an aromatic hydrocarbon resin, a hydrogenated aromatic hydrocarbon resin, a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon resin, a hydrogenated cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon resin, a polyterpene resin, a terpene-phenol resin, a rosin ester resin, a rosin acid resin, or a combination thereof.

The adhesive composition of claim 21, wherein the hydrocarbon resin has a total dicyclopentadiene, cyclopentadiene, and methylcyclopentadiene derived content of from about 60 wt% to about 100 wt% of the total weight of the hydrocarbon resin and wherein the hydrocarbon resin has a weight average molecular weight of from 600 g/mol to 1400 g/mol.

24. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-23, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the tackifier, the tackifier is present in an amount of from about 5 wt% to 34 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

25. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-23, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the tackifier, the tackifier is present in an amount of from 5 wt% to 15 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

26. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-23, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the tackifier, the tackifier is present in an amount of about 10 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

27. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-26, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the polypropylene wax, the polypropylene wax is present in an amount of from about 0.5 wt% to 20 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

28. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-26, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the polypropylene wax, the polypropylene wax is present in an amount of from 1 wt% to 10 wt% based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

29. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-28, wherein when the adhesive composition includes the polypropylene wax, the polypropylene wax has a Mw/Mn of from 1.5 to 5.

30. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-29 being substantially free of a functionalized polyolefin.

31. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-30 having a crystallization temperature of greater than about 70ºC.

32. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-31 having an elongation at break, measured according to method ISO 37, of greater than about 150%.

33. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-32 having a set time of less than 2.5 seconds.

34. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-33 having a DTc of 10ºC or more, wherein DTc is defined as the difference between the crystallization temperature of the neat propylene-based elastomer and the crystallization temperature of the propylene-based elastomer blend and the one or more waxes.

35. The adhesive composition of any of claims 1-34 having a crystallization window of from 50ºC to 120ºC.

36. An adhesive composition comprising:

70 wt% to 80 wt% of a propylene-based elastomer based on a total weight of the adhesive composition;

10 wt% of a polyethylene wax based on the total weight of the adhesive composition; 0 wt% to 10 wt% of a polypropylene wax based on the total weight of the adhesive composition; and

10 wt% of a tackifier based on the total weight of the adhesive composition.

37. The adhesive composition of claim 36 having a set time of from 1.25 seconds to 2.25 seconds.
