Claims

1. Device (100) for resource optimization of a Radio Access Network, RAN, the device (100) being configured to:

obtain location information (101) related to at least one wireless communication device (102) in the RAN, particularly at least one UE,

perform a RAN resource optimization method (103) based on the obtained location information (101).

2. Device (100) according to claim 1, wherein:

the location information (101) is related to one UE (102) or to a group of UEs

(102).

3. Device (100) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein:

the location information (101) includes at least one of:

a position of the at least one wireless communication device (102), an identification, ID, or a group ID of the at least one wireless communication device (102),

an accuracy of the position of the at least one wireless communication device

(102),

a positioning method used for obtaining the position of the at least one wireless communication device (102),

a difference between the position and a previously measured position of the at least one communication device (102).

4. Device (100) according to one of the claims 1 to 3, wherein:

the RAN resource optimization method (103) is based on a Radio Resource Management, RRM, function or is based on a Self- Organizing Network, SON, function.

5. Device (100) according to claim 4, wherein:

the RAN resource optimization method (103) based on a SON function includes at least one of:

Mobility Robustness Optimization, MRO,

Mobility Load Balancing, MLB, optimization,

Random Access Channel, RACH, optimization.

6. Device (100) according to claim 4 or 5, wherein:

the RAN resource optimization method (103) based on a RRM function includes at least one of:

Dynamic Resource Allocation, DRA,

Interference Coordination, ICIC,

Connection Mobility Control, CMC,

Inter-node Coordinated Multipoint, CoMP,

Radio Bearer Admission and Control, RAC/RBC,

Load Balancing, LB,

Energy Efficiency, EE.

7. Device (100) according to one of the claims 1 to 6, configured to:

send a location request (201) or a subscription message (201) intended for a network location service, LCS, to a RAN node (200), particularly to a location management component, LMC, or to a Core Network entity, in particular to a Location Management Function, LMF, and

obtain the location information (101) in response to the location request (201) or the subscription message (201).

8. Device (100) according to claim 7, wherein:

the location request (201) or the subscription message (201) to the RAN node (200) comprises at least one of:

an ID or group ID of the at least one wireless communication device (102), one or more parameters for a positioning measurement,

a geographical area,

a time of validity of the location request (201) or subscription message (201), a periodicity of performing a positioning measurement,

a type of the request (201 ) or the subscription (201 ),

a purpose of the request (201) or the subscription (201).

9. Device (100) according to one of the claims 1 to 8, wherein:

the device (100) is, or is implemented in, a RAN node.

10. Device (100) according to one of the claims 1 to 9, configured to:

exchange the location information (101) and/or a result of performing the RAN resource optimization method (103) with at least one other device, particularly with another RAN node.

11. Device (100) according to claim 10, configured to:

exchange the location information (101) or the result of performing the RAN resource optimization method (103) via a Xn/X2, FI or NG interface.

12. Device (200) for supporting resource optimization of a Radio Access Network, RAN, the device (200) being configured to:

receive a location request (201) or a subscription message (201) from another device (100),

determine location information (101) related to at least one wireless communication device (102) in the RAN, particularly at least one UE, based on the location request (201) or the subscription message (202), and

provide the location information (101) to the other device (100).

13. Device (100) according to claim 12, wherein:

the device (200) and/or the other device (100) is, or is implemented in, a RAN node or in the Core Network.

14. Device (200) according to claim 12 or 13, configured to:

determine the location information (101) by using a Location Management Component and/or Location Management Lunction, LML, implemented in the device (200) or distributed over multiple devices (200).

15. Device (200) according to one of the claims 12 to 14, wherein:

the location request (201) or the subscription message (201) is from a Radio Resource Management, RRM, function or from a Self-Organizing Network, SON, function implemented in the other device (100).

16. Device (200) according to claim 15, configured to:

determine a purpose of the request or the subscription from the location request (201) or the subscription message (201), respectively, and

adapt the location information (101) based on the determined purpose, before providing it to the other device (101).

17. Method (1600) for resource optimization of a Radio Access Network, RAN, the method (1600) comprising:

obtaining (1601) location information (101) related to at least one wireless communication device (102) in the RAN, particularly at least one UE,

performing (1602) a RAN resource optimization method (103) based on the obtained location information (101).

18. Method (1700) for supporting resource optimization of a Radio Access Network, RAN, the method (1700) comprising:

receiving (1701) a location request (201) or a subscription message (201) from a device (100),

determining (1702) location information (101) related to at least one wireless communication device (102) in the RAN, particularly at least one UE, based on the location request (201) or the subscription message (201), and

providing (1703) the location information (101) to the device (100).

19. Computer program product comprising a program code for controlling the device (100, 200) according to one of the claims 1 to 16, or for carrying out, when implemented on a processor, the method (1600, 1700) according to claim 17 or 18.
