CLAIMS

WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:

1. A vascular access guidance system comprising:

a guidance device comprising a clamping mechanism structured to receive and secure therein a mobile device having a display screen;

an imaging apparatus operatively mechanically coupled to the clamping mechanism of the guidance device;

the imaging apparatus communicatively coupled to the mobile device to enable displaying image data on the screen display of the mobile device; and,

the combination of the guidance device and the imaging apparatus being capable of being held and manipulated in a single hand of a user during performance of a medical procedure.

2. The system of Claim 1, wherein the mobile device comprises a mobile phone, tablet, or computing device having a screen display.

3. The system of Claim 1, wherein the mobile device comprises graphic display enabled eyeglasses.

4. The system of Claim 1, wherein the medical procedure involves a vascular ultrasound guidance procedure.

5. The system of Claim 1, wherein the imaging apparatus comprises an ultrasound guidance apparatus.

6. The system of Claim 1, wherein the image data comprises image data derived from a patient body.

7. The system of Claim 1, wherein the clamping mechanism comprises a dial communicatively coupled through a central axis of the clamping mechanism and capable of alternately causing a pair of leg member to move closer toward each other or to move farther apart from each other.

8 The system of Claim 1, further comprising an imaging apparatus cradle securing at least a portion of the imaging apparatus therein.

9. The system of Claim 8, wherein the cradle is adjustable for facilitating direct line of sight visualization of a vascular access site, target organ, or imaging field of view.

10. A training device comprising:

a rigid shell formed in a block shape;

the shell structured to receive at least one replaceable training insert therein; wherein the training insert comprises material that simulates mechanical properties of tissue of a patient body portion; and,

the training insert being suitable for receiving a vascular access device therein for simulating a medical procedure performed on the patient body portion.

11. The device of Claim 10, wherein the vascular access device comprises a needle.

12. The device of Claim 10, wherein the vascular access device comprises a catheter.

13. The device of Claim 10, wherein the vascular access device comprises a vascular line.

14. The device of Claim 10, wherein the training insert material is structured to simulate a biopsy medical procedure.

15. The device of Claim 10, wherein the training insert material is structured to simulate a and percutaneous drainage procedures.

16. The device of Claim 10, wherein the training insert material comprises at least one simulated vessel structure embedded therein.

17. The device of Claim 10, wherein the training insert material is composed of a material having controllable hardness, echo, and elastographic properties.

18. The device of Claim 10, wherein the training insert material is structured with predetermined ultrasound and imaging properties.

19. A computer-based vascular assessment apparatus for evaluating a patient for a medical procedure, the apparatus comprising:

a mobile device comprising an electronic processor and at least one electronic data storage media;

the mobile device programmed to:

execute at least one decision-making algorithm for assessing at least one of:

a pathology of the patient,

a treatment modality for the patient,

a comorbidity of the patient, or

a combination thereof;

calculate a vascular assessment score for the patient body in response to results of executing the decision-making algorithm; and,

generate at least one recommendation in connection with the vascular assessment score for selection of a vascular access device to use in association with the medical procedure; and,

determine a vascular access location within a vascular system of the patient.

20. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing at least one patient history characteristic.

21. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising at least external data source communicatively connected to the mobile device.

22. The apparatus of Claim 21, wherein the external data source comprises data derived from at least one medical record, a source of image data, or a source of medical procedure related information.

23. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a body mass index value.

24. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing history of previous stroke with limb weakness.

25. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing absence or presence of a pacemaker.

26. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing an antibiotic prescription plan.

27. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing an electrolyte replacement plan.

28. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a respiratory issue.

29. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a history of chemotherapy.

30. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a history of peripheral vascular disease.

31. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a history of past peripheral intravenous line infiltrations.

32. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising executing at least one decision making algorithm for assessing a history of multiple peripheral intravenous line attempts.

33. The apparatus of Claim 19, wherein the mobile device is further configured to display image data associated with the patient body.

34. The apparatus of Claim 19, further comprising:

a vascular access guidance system comprising:

a guidance device comprising a clamping mechanism structured to receive and secure therein the mobile device;

an imaging apparatus operatively mechanically coupled to the clamping mechanism of the guidance device;

the imaging apparatus communicatively coupled to the mobile device to enable displaying image data on the screen display of the mobile device; and,

the combination of the guidance device and the imaging apparatus being capable of being held and manipulated in a single hand of a user during performance of a medical procedure.
