CLAIMS:

1. Medical device (100) for facilitating remote medical support, the device comprising:

a user interface, and

a communication unit (106),

wherein the user interface is configured for querying an input regarding at least one current medical use condition of the medical device,

wherein the user interface is configured for receiving the input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device,

wherein the communication unit is configured for determining a required transmission rate for transmitting data from the medical device to a remote medical expert, wherein the communication unit is configured for carrying out the determination of the required transmission rate based on the received input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device, and

wherein the communication unit is configured for requesting and establishing one or more communication connections to achieve the required transmission rate.

2. Medical device (100) according to claim 1,

wherein the user interface is configured for querying the input of a medical experience level of a current operator of the medical device, and/or wherein the user interface is configured for querying the input of a current diagnostic task.

3. Medical device (100) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the medical device is configured for determining a data set that needs to be communicated to the remote medical expert based on the received input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device, and

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for determining a required transmission rate for transmitting the determined data set to the remote medical expert.

4. Medical device (300) according to claim 3,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for dividing the determined data set to be communicated to the remote medical expert (330) into data packets, and

wherein the communication unit is configured for transmitting the data packets over one or more communication connections.

5. Medical device (300) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for supporting a set of different communication connections for transmitting data to the remote medical

expert (330).

6. Medical device (100) according to claim 5,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for providing a set of attributes for each communication connection, and

wherein the communication unit is configured for requesting and establishing an optimum selection of communication connections for achieving the required transmission rate based on the attributes of the communication connections.

7. Medical device (100) according to one of claims 5 or 6,

wherein the communication unit (106) is adapted as a modular communication platform, in which hardware modules can be inserted to extend the set of communication connections.

8. Medical device (100) according to any of claims 5 to 7,

further comprising a navigation receiver for receiving a navigation signal, and

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for selecting one or more communication connections taking into account the received navigation signal of the navigation receiver.

9. Medical device (100) according to claim 8,

wherein the attributes of the communication connections comprise databases specifying the local availability of the communication connections,

wherein the medical device is configured for determining its position by means of the navigation receiver,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for determining the locally available communication connections based on the databases specifying the local availability of communication connections and based on the position determined by the navigation receiver, and

wherein the communication unit is configured for requesting and establishing one or more locally available communication connections to achieve the required transmission rate.

10. Medical device (300) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for requesting a scheduling priority from a communication connection for the data to be transmitted to the remote medical expert (330).

11. Medical device (300) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for determining a required transmission rate and a required transmission time for transmitting data to the remote medical expert (330), and

wherein the communication unit is configured for requesting and establishing one or more communication connections to achieve the required transmission rate for the required transmission time.

12. Medical device (300) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the communication unit (106) is configured for securely transmitting the determined data set to the remote medical expert (330) using encryption and decryption.

13. Medical device (300) according to any of the preceding claims,

wherein the medical device is an imaging device, preferably an X-ray or ultrasound imaging device, and

wherein the data set to be transmitted to the remote medical expert (330) comprises imaging data, preferably X-ray or ultrasound imaging data.

14. Method for facilitating remote medical support, the method comprising the steps:

querying an input regarding at least one current medical use condition of a medical device (SI),

receiving the input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device (S2),

- determining a required transmission rate for transmitting data from the medical device to a remote medical expert based on the received input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device (S3), and

requesting and establishing one or more communication connections to achieve the required transmission rate (S4).

15. A program element for facilitating remote medical support, which program element, when being executed by a processor, is adapted to carry out:

querying an input regarding at least one current medical use condition of a medical device,

- receiving the input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device,

determining a required transmission rate for transmitting data from the medical device to a remote medical expert based on the received input regarding the current medical use condition of the medical device, and

requesting and establishing one or more communication connections to achieve the required transmission rate.
