Apparatus for cleaning underwater structures such as oil rigs (1, 2) which suffer from marine growth, rust, etc. Grit blasting is a known method of cleaning in such circumstances but this has certain disadvantages not the least of which is abrasion of bearings, seals and other moving parts of the equipment by infiltration of grit. In the present apparatus a slurry of ice blocks in water is projected in a jet (11) at the surface from a nozzle arrangement (10, 12) on a remotely-operated subsea vehicle (ROV) (3). There are various ways of providing the slurry: a) it may be formed completely up above and pumped down a house; b) water (6) just above freezing may be pumped (7) down a hose (4) to a refrigeration plant (8) to form ice blocks; c) ice blocks may be formed in the ROV from the local water; and d) ice blocks may be stored in the ROV (3) prior to its launch and dispensed at the time of use. The use of ice blocks reduces unwanted abrasion problems since the ice fragments tend to melt after impact.

A machine which is able to strip bearing line and weight line from a fishing net. The machine is designated with two steering rolls in the front (1) where the net is led through. Via a lower guide rail (2) supported by an upper guide rail (2) the net will be led to a rotating knife (3) which will separate the nets from the lines. On the back of the machine there are 4 rubber rolls (4) which - by engine power - draw both net and lines free off the machine and it is now easy to pick up. The advantages of the machine are that it is able to increase the speed of which the net is stripped. Until now this job has been carried out manually with a knife but the separation can now be done by machine. Using the machine stripping net you can now obtain a capacity of 10-15 net per hour.

The cable is designed so that a single path is provided by each wire and its associated terminals. The user touches the stylus of a manually movable probe against each pin. Only the associated light emitting device will be energized if there is good continuity for a given path in the cable. Non energizing of the associated device or energizing any other device indicates a lack of continuity and the source thereof.

A bathroom scale has a load receiving platform (1) on which a user can stand and display means (8). The beams (42) are supported on knife edge support members (52), and a plurality of piezoelectric strain gauges (44 to 47) are screen printed on an insulating coating on the beams (42) of the force plate adjacent the position at which the force plate is supported on the support members (52). Deformation of the beams (42) as a result of weight on the platform (1) produces electrical signals which are summed to form a composite load signal and the display means (8) displays the composite load signal as a weight reading. Summing the electrical signals from the strain gauges electrically, avoids many of the disadvantages and errors associated with scales which utilise a mechanical linkage to sum weight components.
