Appl.No PCT/CR2003/000002 Applicant DARREN, William, Hreniuk, Mitchell Inventor DARREN, William, Hreniuk, Mitchell
The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and materials. More specifically, the invention relates to a self-adjusting system of crossing rails having multiple characteristics which extend the useful life of the crossing system by at least a factor of four, while offering a safety support by providing redundancy to the line system. In this way, human passengers can move from place to place easily and safely with a minimum of noise and vibrations. In addition, the proprietor of the system can benefit from lower maintenance costs and less exposure to financial risk. Moreover, the system can be installed at a multitude of diverse natural sites without altering or damaging the environment. Moreover, the same components can be used to produce other configuration options which increase the possibility of creating a system having characteristics enabling same to cover a multitude of inclinations. According to the invention, the various components are combined in order to obtain (i) maximum conservation of energy, said configuration combining a smooth rail (Fig. 1) and the self-balancing system (Fig. 3), or (ii) maximum braking, said configuration combining the skeleton rail (Fig. 2) and the high-braking safety system (Fig. 4).

Appl.No PCT/DE2003/000352 Applicant ROBERT BOSCH GMBH Inventor POLZIN, Norbert
The invention relates to a method and a device for monitoring the operating state of at least one tire of a vehicle depending on whether a trailer is coupled to the vehicle. According to the invention, the operating state of the tire, i.e., the tire state is monitored for changes. The operation of the vehicle with a trailer changes the distribution of the axle load between front and rear axle of the towing vehicle. This change manifests itself in modified slip conditions for the wheels on the front and on the rear axle and results in the wheel speeds in the trailer operation differing from those in the operation without trailer under otherwise identical conditions. The invention is particularly characterized in that the monitoring of the tire state based on the wheel speeds is modified in response to the recognition of an operation of the vehicle with a trailer. This modification can be used to detect for example the pressure loss of a tire with a better accuracy of detection.

Appl.No PCT/DE2003/001803 Applicant FARMATIC BIOTECH ENERGY AG Inventor MEDELNIK, Sönke
The invention relates to a method for separating out solids from liquids or from solid/liquid mixtures while using a first container (12, 52) and an outlet channel (54) and/or a second container (14), which is joined to the first container in a transition area (18, 56). To this end, the sedimented solids in the first container (12, 52) are compacted by at least one first vibrating device (24), which acts upon the liquid located in the first container (12), to form a layer (61) that is at least largely liquid-tight, and the solids in the connecting area are rendered free-flowing by at least one second vibrating device (24, 60). These solids are discharged from the first container via the transition area in so far as the liquid-tight layer (61) remains intact or the sedimented solids in the first container (12) are compacted by the operation of at least one vibration device (24, 60), which acts upon the liquid (20) located inside the first container (12), in a first operating stage with a low frequency of less than 2000 Hz to form a layer (61) that is at least largely liquid-tight. In addition, the solids in the transition area are rendered free-flowing by the operation of the vibrating device (24, 60) in a second operating stage with a higher frequency that is greater than 1000 Hz, and are discharged from the first container via the connecting area (18) in so far as the sealing of the connecting area by the liquid-tight layer (61). remains ensured.

Circuit systems with programmable memory elements are used for executing certain functions in circuit engineering. Said functions are defined by data which is stored in the memory elements and can be modified by reprogramming the memory elements. The inventive circuit system prevents unauthorized reprogramming of the memory elements by arranging at least one connection of the memory element, which is used for programming said memory element, and each strip conductor of the printed board, which is connected to said connection, in a concealed manner in such a way that it is impossible to contact said connection and the strip conductor that is connected thereto in a nondestructive manner. The invention applies to control devices for motor vehicles.

Appl.No PCT/DE2003/000553 Applicant SIEMENS AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT Inventor KÖSTNER, Michael
The invention relates to a local network, particularly an Ethernet network having redundancy properties, in which coupling devices (K1, K2, K3) and a redundancy manager (RM) are interconnected in a ring-shaped topology. The redundancy manager opens the ring to create a linear topology if test messages (T11, T12) which said redundancy manager emitted are received at the other port (P42, P41) within a given period of time, otherwise the redundancy manager closes the connection. At least one of the coupling devices (K3) is configured as a so-called redundancy manager observer, which monitors the status of the network by means of test messages (T21, T22) emitted by said redundancy manager observer. The redundancy manager observer also opens the ring to create a linear topology if the test messages (T21, T22) thereof are received at the other port (P32, P31) within a given period of time, otherwise the redundancy manager observer closes the connection, whereby messages are prevented from circulating on the ring.

A bi-convex solid immersion lens is disclosed. Unlike conventional plano-convex solid immersion lenses having a flat bottom surface, the disclosed lens has a convex bottom surface. The radius of curvature of the bottom surface is smaller than that of the object to be inspected. This construction allows for a more accurate determination of the location of the inspected feature, and enhances coupling of light between the immersion lens and the inspected object. The disclosed lens is particularly useful for use in microscope for inspection of semiconductor devices and, especially flip-chip (or chip scale) packaged devices. The immersion lens can also be incorporated in a read or read/write head of optical memory media.

The present invention is directed to a device (target end station) and method for the combinatory ion implantation into a sample. It generally comprises a defining section for spatially defining the dimension and shape of the ion beam, a sample chamber in which the sample to be irradiated is positioned, and a shutter assembly located between the defining section and the sample chamber. The shutter assembly typically comprises two individually controllable shutter systems each having a movable shutter that can be moved into and out of the ion beam in predetermined steps and/or intervals. The shutter itself is preferably a guillotine-type shutter, wherein the edges of the two shutters are preferably arranged perpendicularly with respect to one another. Alternatively, one or both of the shutters may be slit shutters or even more than two shutter systems may be provided in order to more freely define the dimension and shape of the ion beam. The particular advantage of the device and method of the present invention is that on one sample a plurality of areas can be irradiated under identical process conditions so that a considerable amount of time can be saved during the manufacture and development of materials, particularly semiconductors.
