Feed rollers (30) advance the textile fibres (20) into a stuffer box (10). The width (w) of the entry aperture (8) of the stuffer box (10) is one millimetre for each fibre bundle having a linear density in the range of 200 to 750 denier and the height (h) is between 2 and 20 mm. A lid (12) is held down by a pneumatic cylinder (40) until the pressure of the material accumulating in the stuffer box forces up the lid and the crimped material (22) then escapes from the stuffer box.

Roller (10) has a cylindrical surface (12) from which project pins (16) inclined at an angle (A) between 20° and 80° to the tangent to the roller. The pins have a projection length of 0.5 to 2.0 mm and a diameter of 0.2 to 0.8 mm. They are arranged in double rows (14) with 25 to 34 pins to the inch arranged in a spaced staggered relationship in two adjacent lines. Each row is either inclined to a line parallel to the axis of the roller or of sinusoidal form. A film to be fibrillated is advanced over the surface of the rotating roller for an arc length of contact of 30° to 37° with the ratio of the surface speed of the roller to that of the advancing film being between 1.8 to 1 and 2.2 to 1.

Polyolefin film is slit (13), molecularly oriented (14), fibrillated (15) and crimped (17). To improve the crimping, and thus the yield and variability as a filter, the fibrillated film is heated (16) before crimping. The fibrillated tow is crimped while still hot from the heating step. The resulting fibers have more uniform crimping at higher levels than those not subject to heating.

A composition and method for treatment of bacterial vaginosis and/or trichomoniasis are disclosed. An afflicted vaginia is treated with a therapeutically effective amount of a buffered metronidazole composition having a pH in the range of about 3 to about 4.25, preferably about 3.75 to about 4.25. A preferred such composition comprises metronidazole, a gelled hydrophobic and water-dispersible polymer, such as a polyacrylic acid polymer having a molecular weight in the range of about 1,250,000 to about 4,000,000 daltons, and an aqueous solvent for the metronidazole.

There are disclosed certain novel compounds identified as benzo-fused lactams which promote the release of growth hormone in humans and animals. This property can be utilized to promote the growth of food animals to render the production of edible meat products more efficient, and in humans, to increase the stature of those afflicted with a lack of a normal secretion of natural growth hormone. Growth promoting compositions containing such benzo-fused lactams as the active ingredient thereof are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a method of packaging an adhesive composition, especially a thermoplastic or thermosetting hot melt adhesive. The method comprises the steps of providing one substantially uniform separate portion of the adhesive composition; sufficiently solidifying said portion for packaging; substantially completely surrounding said sufficiently solidified portion with a plastics packaging material. The packaging material being meltable together with the adhesive composition and blendable into said molten adhesive composition, the kind and amount of said packaging material being chosen so as not to disadvantageously affect the properties of the adhesive composition when blended into same. Preferably, the packaging material is a net, a wrap, a sack or a bag. Packagings made of plastic film are advantageously voided of air, to prevent problems in melting. The packaged adhesive can be melted as it is.

A single-wire loop alarm system in which an identification module (IDMN) is placed across each alarm switch (SWN). Any module (IDMN) which is across an open switch (SWN) is powered by the loop current and, in response to a pulse count in the loop representing its address, changes the loop impedance in order to report on its status. The loop current may alternate in direction so that oppositely poled modules (IDMN) may be used, thus allowing a larger number of powered modules (IDMN) to be accommodated at the same time.

An additional boot serves to increase the boot of a private car with a stepped rear part. It consists of two side parts, a rear door and three adaptors which can be assembled with the lid and edge of the boot so as to convert the private car into a station wagon, if need be. The car can be quickly restored to its original shape by dismounting the additional boot. Only a few minor changes to conventional car bodies are necessary, so that the additional boot can be used for both new and many older models of car.

Novel attractants for the Mediterranean Fruit Fly, "Medfly", are disclosed. The attractants comprise isomeric blends of esters of iodo-trans-2-methylcyclohexanecarboxylic acid. In use, the attractants are competitive in attraction with the "standard" Medfly attractant, Trimedlure, "TML", but are much more persistent than TML.
