The Kinetic Energy, E, of a body, Mg, in free fall in the earth's gravitational field is proportional to the force acting on it and the distance travelled. The distance travelled is a product of the magnitude of the velocity and the time taken to travel that distance. The body, Mg, if made to move a 'toothed' worm gear downwards will rotate a toothed worm wheel with which the worm gear is meshed. The downward longitudinal motion of the body, Mg, will thus be converted into the rotational motion of the worm wheel and its shaft. This rotation of the worm wheel and its shaft is used to drive a train of gears which ultimately drive an alternator/dynamo. Thus the Kinetic Energy of the body, Mg, is converted into electrical energy.
