PURPOSE: A calibration device in a communication system and a method are provided to perform calibration even without a receiving path for separate calibration while a separate transceiving path is not necessary, thereby performing the calibration by minimizing system complexity. CONSTITUTION: A baseband module(145) consists of a reference signal generator for generating at least one reference signal, and a calibration unit for performing calibration by using signals received after the reference signals are transmitted. A wireless processor comprises as follows. Transmitters(133,137,141) up-convert signals to generate wireless signals. Receivers(135,139,143) down-convert signals to generate baseband signals. Antennas(111,113,115) transmit or receive the signals of the transmitters(133,137,141), and output the signals to the receivers(135,139,143). Couplers(119,121,123) couple the signals in connection with the antennas(111,113,115). ©KIPO 2008

본 발명은 스마트 안테나를 이용하는 통신 시스템에서 캘리브레이션 방법에 있어서, 캘리브레이션을 위한 기준 신호들을 생성하여, 데이터 신호들을 위해 사용되며 상기 스마트 안테나의 각 안테나들에 연결된 송신 경로들로 출력하는 과정과, 상기 출력된 기준 신호들을 무선 신호들로 상향 변환하는 과정과, 상기 무선 신호들을 커플링하는 과정과, 상기 커플링된 무선 신호들의 결합 가능 여부를 확인하는 과정과, 상기 확인 결과 상기 커플링된 무선 신호들의 결합이 가능한 경우, 상기 커플링된 무선 신호들을 결합하여 결합 신호를 생성하고, 상기 결합 신호를 상기 각 안테나들에 연결된 수신 경로들 중에서 하나의 수신 경로로 출력하는 과정과, 상기 출력된 결합 신호를 기저대역 신호로 하향 변환하는 과정과, 상기 기저대역 신호에서 상기 각 안테나들에 대한 빔계수들을 제거한 후, 상기 빔계수들이 제거된 기저대역 신호를 이용하여 송신 캘리브레이션 벡터들을 획득하는 과정과, 상기 획득된 송신 캘리브레이션 벡터들을 상기 각 안테나들의 빔계수들에 적용하여 상기 송신 경로들에 대한 송신 캘리브레이션을 수행하는 과정을 포함한다.
