Abstract
(EN)

PURPOSE: To improve fuel consumption, enhance startability and control an engine speed suitable for each operating mode by switching the number of operating cylinders in idle operation in a partial cylinder operating engine.

CONSTITUTION: When it is judged on the basis of a signal output from an idle sensor 48 that an engine is in an idle operation state, a computer 40 turns on or off an oil control valve 51 for switching the number of cylinders so as to control the number of operating cylinders. Meanwhile, an engine speed is detected based on an ignition signal of an ignition device 44 and is controlled to a predetermined value according to an operating mode. Furthermore, a feedback gain of a control system during partial cylinder operation is set smaller than that during of all cylinder operation. Consequently, it is possible to control an engine speed suitable for each operation.
