PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten a dimensionless performance index ZT of a thermoelectric material.

SOLUTION: A thermoelectric material, having an average particle size of 20 nm to 1000 nm and formed with an oxide film on a surface, is composed of a sintered body containing oxygen of a total amount of oxygen contained in the oxide film of 0.1 wt.% or higher and 3 wt.% or lower with reference to a weight of the thermoelectric material.

【課題】熱電材料の無次元性能指数ZTをより高めることにある。
【解決手段】表面に酸化膜が形成された平均粒子径が20nm〜1000nmの熱電材料を有するとともに、酸化膜に含まれる酸素の合計量は熱電材料の重量に対して0.1wt%より多く3wt%以下の酸素を含有する焼結体からなる。
