An electromagnet (100, Fig. 1) for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) apparatus, comprising: a coil 110, for generating a magnetic field, having a first axially outer surface (112, Fig. 3); and a support element 120, for mounting the coil in the MRI; the support element being bonded to the first axially outer surface of the coil. The support element may be configured to be mechanically fastened to a support structure 200 and may have a bonding face (122, Fig. 3), by which it is bonded to the coil, with a reduced stiffness towards its periphery and higher stiffness towards a central area. The coil and support element may be bonded by an adhesive such a thermosetting resin. The support structure may comprise a pair of spaced-apart support plates (210, 220, Fig. 5) and there may be a pin (300, Fig. 13) for making pinned connection between the support plate(s) and the support element. Also claimed is a method of making an electromagnet with support element bonded to an axially outer surface.
