A printer capable of controlling the operation capability of an image-forming device according to a user's utilization mode. Operation capability designation information for designating the operation capability of the image-forming device is rewritably held in an EEPROM (34) provided in the print controller (30) of the image forming device. The CPU (31) of the print controller (30) judges whether or not a printing request sent from a computer (40) falls within a capability range designated by the held operation capability designation information. If within a capability range, a print engine (10) is caused to form an image. As the capability, a usable amount of ink to be contained in an ink cartridge (20) can be set.

L'invention concerne une imprimante apte à assurer la commande de la capacité opérationnelle d'un dispositif imageur selon un mode de traitement de l'utilisateur. L'information désignant l'aptitude à la fonction qui sert à désigner l'aptitude à la fonction d'un dispositif imageur est stockée de manière réenregistrable dans une mémoire EEPROM (34) disposée dans le dispositif de commande d'impression (30) du dispositif imageur. L'unité centrale (31) du dispositif de commande d'impression (30) évalue si une demande d'impression émanant de l'ordinateur (40) se situe ou non dans une plage d'aptitude désignée par l'information désignant l'aptitude à la fonction retenue. Si tel est le cas, une imprimante (10) est utilisée pour former l'image. L'aptitude à la fonction peut déterminer le volume utile d'encre à stocker dans une cartouche d'encre (20).
