The X-ray tube (2) comprises an electron source (9) having number of electron emission cathode (5) and a control electrode. An anode (7) is formed for accelerating the emitted electrons from the electrons source by high voltage for generating X-rays. An anode current measuring unit (10) is formed for direct measurement of the anode current at high voltage potential. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating X-ray tube.
