Abstract

Teh invention is to satisfy both high power factor and harmonics suppression by connecting a capacitor between the AC input terminal and DC output terminal of a bridge rectifier circuit. A power supply is provided with an AC power supply 6, a bridge rectifier circuit 5 formed of four diodes 1-4 for full-wave rectification of the AC voltage from the AC power supply 6, a reactor connected between the AC power supply 6 and an AC input terminal 5b, a capacitor 9 connected between an AC input terminal 5a and a DC output terminal 5c, and a smoothing capacitor 8. A resonance current flows through the reactor 7 and the capacitor 9 during half period of AC input to increase Vc from zero to Vo through the charging of the capacitor 9. The Vc decreases from Vo to zero during next half period of AC input through the discharge of the capacitor 9, and a smooth current of series resonance flows from zero phase of the input voltage.
