Abstract
(EN) A first metal work-piece is welded to a second metal work-piece, for example as pipes (22, 28) in a method of laying pipeline, for example from a pipe-laying vessel (20) at sea. The metal pipes may have an outer diameter greater than 150mm and a pipe wall thickness of greater than 15mm. The work-pieces are brought together prior to welding so as to sandwich between them a third type of metal material (61). The third type of metal material (61) is deposited, for example using an additive manufacturing method such as laser metal deposition, on one or both work-pieces as multiple parallel tracks of material having a chemical composition which is different from that of the first and second materials. The thickness of the third type of material, immediately before welding is less than 2mm. The use of the third type of different material, may facilitate the use of a laser welding apparatus to perform an autogenous welding step, as it may be engineered to improve the quality and metallurgical properties of the material that forms the weld.
(FR) Une première pièce métallique est soudée à une seconde pièce métallique, par exemple sous la forme de tuyaux (22, 28) dans un procédé de pose de pipelines, par exemple depuis un navire de pose de tuyaux (20) en mer. Les tuyaux métalliques peuvent présenter un diamètre extérieur supérieur à 150 mm et une épaisseur de paroi de tuyau supérieure à 15 mm. Les pièces sont rassemblées avant soudage de manière à enserrer entre elles un troisième type de matériau métallique (61). Le troisième type de matériau métallique (61) est déposé, par exemple en utilisant un procédé de fabrication additive tel qu'un dépôt de métal par laser, sur une ou les deux pièces sous la forme de multiples pistes parallèles de matériau ayant une composition chimique qui est différente de celle des premier et second matériaux. L'épaisseur du troisième type de matériau, immédiatement avant soudage, est inférieure à 2 mm. L'utilisation du troisième type de matériau différent peut faciliter l'utilisation d'un appareil de soudage au laser pour effectuer une étape de soudage autogène, étant donné qu'il peut être conçu pour améliorer la qualité et les propriétés métallurgiques du matériau qui forme la soudure.
