Abstract
(EN) Devices and methods are disclosed that receive a request from a client device for a media file, determine compatibility of the media file with the requesting client device, and, if appropriate, transcode the media file into a compatible form which is then transmitted to the requesting client device. To determine whether a media file is compatible with the client request, the storage device can analyze a portion of the requested media file and compare that information with parameters of the client request. Transcoded data can be stored alongside the original file as a new file, stored in place of the original file, or stored in the same container as the original file so that the new file includes both the original version and the transcoded version of the media file.
(FR) L'invention concerne des dispositifs et des procédés qui font appel à la réception d'une demande en provenance d'un dispositif client associée à un fichier de contenu multimédia, à la détermination de la compatibilité du fichier de contenu multimédia avec le dispositif client demandeur et, le cas échéant, au transcodage du fichier de contenu multimédia en une forme compatible qui est ensuite transmise au dispositif client demandeur. Pour déterminer si un fichier de contenu multimédia est compatible avec la demande de client, le dispositif de stockage peut analyser une partie du fichier de contenu multimédia demandé et comparer ces informations à des paramètres de la demande de client. Des données transcodées peuvent être stockées parallèlement au fichier d'origine en tant que nouveau fichier, être stockées en place dans le fichier d'origine, ou être stockées dans le même conteneur que le fichier d'origine de sorte que le nouveau fichier comprenne à la fois la version d'origine et la version transcodée du fichier de contenu multimédia.
