Abstract
(EN) A spark plug (1) for an internal combustion engine includes an insulator (3), a central electrode (4) having a distal end protruding portion (41), a housing (2), a grounding electrode (6), and a plug cover (5). Injection holes (51) providing communication from an auxiliary combustion chamber (50) to the outside are provided in the plug cover (5). The injection holes (51) are formed in such a way that the introduction of a gas flow into the auxiliary combustion chamber (50) through the injection holes (51) generates a swirling flow in the auxiliary combustion chamber (50). The auxiliary combustion chamber (50) includes a pocket portion (59), which is an annular space, between the outer circumferential surface of the insulator (3) and the inner circumferential surface of the housing (2). The outer circumferential surface of the insulator (3) includes an insulator inclined surface (31) which contracts diametrically with increasing distance toward the distal end side, in a position opposing the pocket portion (59). The inner circumferential surface of the housing (2) includes a housing inclined surface (21) which contracts diametrically with increasing distance toward the base end side, in a position opposing the pocket portion (59).
