Abstract
(EN) Described herein are details for designing and manufacturing enhanced shock and impact resistant helicoidal lay-ups by combining nanomaterials, variable pitch and partial spirals, Thin unidirectional fiber plies, hybrid materials, and/or curved fibers within a ply. The helicoidal structures created in the prescribed manners can be tuned and pitched to desired wavelengths to dampen propagating shock waves initiated by ballistics, strike forces or foreign material impacts and can arrest the propagation of fractures including catastrophic fractures. These enhancements open the helicoidal technology up for use in such applications as consumer products, protective armor, sporting equipment, crash protection devices, wind turbine blades, cryogenic tanks, pressure vessels, battery casings, automotive/aerospace components, construction materials, and other composite products.
(FR) L'invention concerne des détails destinés à concevoir et fabriquer des superpositions de couches hélicoïdales résistantes aux chocs et aux impacts améliorées par la combinaison de nanomatériaux, de pas variable et de spirales partielles, de nappes de fibres unidirectionnelles fines, de matériaux hybrides et/ou de fibres incurvées à l'intérieur d'une nappe. Les structures hélicoïdales créées dans les modes prescrits peuvent être accordées et inclinées à des longueurs d'onde souhaitées pour amortir des ondes de choc se propageant initiées par des balles, des forces de frappe ou des impacts de corps étrangers et peut arrêter la propagation de fractures comprenant des fractures catastrophiques. Ces améliorations ouvrent la technologie hélicoïdale à une utilisation dans des applications telles que des produits de consommation, des armures de protection, des équipements sportifs, des dispositifs de protection en cas d'accident, des pales d'éolienne, des réservoirs cryogéniques, des récipients sous pression, des boîtiers de batterie, des composants automobiles/aérospatiaux, des matériaux de construction et d'autres produits composites.
