Compositions and methods for protecting insect pollinators against the harmful cognitive effects of pesticides are disclosed. The compositions are suitable for administration to or ingestion by an insect pollinator and contain one or more phenolic compounds, such as the flavonoids quercetin, rutin, kaempferol and p-coumaric acid in an effective amount to protect against pesticide-induced impairment of a cognitive function of the insect pollinator. Methods of using such compositions for preventing or reducing pesticide-induced impairment of cognitive functions including learning, memory, decision-making, motor activity, and navigation in an insect pollinator are also provided. The compositions and methods protect insect pollinators including honeybees and bumblebees against neurotoxic pesticides with different pharmacodynamics including neonicotinoids, such as Imidacloprid, fipronil, and pyrethroids, such as deltamethrin.

L'invention concerne des compositions et des méthodes de protection d'insectes pollinisateurs contre les effets cognitifs nocifs de pesticides. Les compositions sont appropriées pour une administration ou une ingestion par un insecte pollinisateur et contiennent un ou plusieurs composés phénoliques, tels que les flavonoïdes quercétine, rutine, kaempférol et l'acide p-coumarique en une quantité efficace pour protéger contre une déficience induite par un pesticide d'une fonction cognitive de l'insecte pollinisateur. L'invention concerne également des méthodes d'utilisation de telles compositions pour prévenir ou réduire une déficience induite par un pesticide de fonctions cognitives, notamment l'apprentissage, la mémoire, la prise de décision, l'activité motrice et la navigation chez un insecte pollinisateur. Les compositions et les méthodes protègent les insectes pollinisateurs, notamment les abeilles et les bourdons, contre des pesticides neurotoxiques ayant différentes pharmacodynamiques, y compris les néonicotinoïdes, tels que l'imidaclopride, le fipronil et les pyréthroïdes, tels que la deltaméthrine.
