A computer-implemented method includes identifying a request to convert an existing storage pool having a smaller first rank extent size into an intended storage pool having a larger second rank extent size. Volume extents in the existing storage pool are reordered such that physical rank extents of the volumes align with boundaries between the rank extents of the intended storage pool. Each of the ranks in the existing storage pool are converted from the first to the second rank extent size. Thereafter, for each of the volumes: a temporary pause/lock is performed on a VST entry which corresponds to the given volume, and an existing structure associated with the VST entry which corresponds to the first rank extent size is removed. Furthermore, the VST entry is populated with a new structure which corresponds to the second rank extent size.

Selon l'invention, un procédé mis en œuvre par ordinateur consiste à identifier une demande pour convertir un groupe d'unités de stockage existant ayant une première taille d'extent de rangée plus petite en un groupe d'unités de stockage prévu ayant une deuxième taille d'extent de rangée plus grande. Des extents de volume dans le groupe d'unités de stockage existant sont réordonnés de sorte que des extents de rangée physique des volumes s'alignent avec des limites entre les extents de rangée du groupe d'unités de stockage prévu. Chacune des rangées dans le groupe d'unités de stockage existant est convertie de la première à la deuxième taille d'extent de rangée. Ensuite, pour chacun des volumes : une pause/un verrouillage temporaire est effectué sur une entrée de VST qui correspond au volume donné, et une structure existante associée à l'entrée de VST qui correspond à la première taille d'extent de rangée est éliminée. En outre, l'entrée de VST est remplie avec une nouvelle structure qui correspond à la deuxième taille d'extent de rangée.
