A permanent magnet (1) for an electric machine is formed as a one piece hollow cylinder. The cylindrical permanent magnet (1) comprises one or more grooves or slits (2, 3) dividing the permanent magnet in at least two sections (4a-4f) being interconnected as the groove do not cut the cylinder in two separable pieces.
