Abstract
(EN) A protector is engineered to protect corneal tissue during intraoperative procedures. The protector is a temporary passageway into and optionally through the cornea. The sleeve portion of the protector can be more rigid or less rigid depending on a procedure or surgeon preference. The sleeve is described herein in terms of two examples. The first example is a polymer fabric sleeve that expands and is secured into an incision that will then be the passage for all instruments entering the eye. It will also seal the eye from backflow of liquids and tissue out of the passageway. The second example is a relatively rigid tube with an external bladder that is expandable into the incision to secure it from movement and acts as a valved passage into the eye.
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif de protection conçu pour protéger le tissu cornéen pendant des procédures intra-opératoires. Le dispositif de protection se présente sous la forme d'un passage temporaire dans la cornée et éventuellement à travers celle-ci. Une partie de manchon du dispositif de protection peut être plus ou moins rigide en fonction d'une procédure ou d'une préférence de chirurgien. Le manchon est décrit ici selon deux exemples. Le premier exemple est un manchon en tissu polymère qui se dilate et qui est fixé dans une incision, laquelle sera dès lors le passage à emprunter pour tous les instruments pénétrant dans l’œil. L'étanchéité de l’œil est également assurée contre le reflux de liquides et de tissus hors du passage. Le second exemple est un tube relativement rigide avec une poche externe qui peut se déployer dans l'incision pour l'immobiliser et jouer le rôle de passage à valve dans l’œil.
