Abstract

PGM converting process and jacketed rotary converter. The process can include low- or no-flux converting; partial pre-oxidation of PGM collector alloy; using a refractory protectant in the converter; magnetic separation of slag; recycling part of the slag to the converter; smelting catalyst material in a primary furnace to produce the collector alloy; and/or smelting the converter slag in a secondary furnace with slag from the primary furnace. The converter can include an inclined converter pot mounted for rotation; a refractory lining; an opening in a top of the pot to introduce converter feed; a lance for injecting oxygen-containing gas into the alloy pool; a heat transfer jacket adjacent the refractory lining; and a coolant system to circulate a heat transfer medium through the jacket to remove heat from the alloy pool in thermal communication with the refractory lining.

L'invention concerne un procédé de conversion de PGM et un convertisseur rotatif chemisé. Le procédé peut consister à convertir en flux faible ou nul ; à pré-oxyder partiellement l'alliage collecteur de PGM ; à utiliser un agent protecteur réfractaire dans le convertisseur ; à séparer magnétiquement du laitier ; à recycler une partie du laitier vers le convertisseur ; à faire fondre du matériau catalyseur dans un four primaire pour produire l'alliage collecteur ; et/ou à faire fondre du laitier convertisseur dans un four secondaire avec du laitier provenant du four primaire. Le convertisseur peut comprendre une cuve inclinée de convertisseur, montée pour tourner ; un revêtement réfractaire ; une ouverture dans une partie supérieure de la cuve, permettant d'introduire une charge de convertisseur ; une lance, permettant d'injecter un gaz contenant de l'oxygène dans le bassin d'alliage ; une chemise de transfert de chaleur, adjacente au revêtement réfractaire ; et un système d'agent de refroidissement, permettant de faire circuler un milieu de transfert de chaleur à travers la chemise pour évacuer la chaleur du bassin d'alliage en communication thermique avec le revêtement réfractaire.
