CLAIMS

1. A method performed by a target base station (104) for handover of a wireless device (102) from a source base station (103), the method comprising:

- causing transmission (513, 1502), to the source base station, of a first message comprising an indication that a connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first message is transmitted upon the wireless device establishing a connection with the target base station.

3. The method of claim 1 or 2, wherein the indication that the connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established is an indication that handover of the wireless device to the target base station is complete.

4. The method of any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising:

- receiving (506, 516, 1503) one or more second messages from the source base station, the one or more second messages comprising an indication of a receive status of data packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the one or more second messages comprise an indication of a receive status of uplink data packets transmitted from the wireless device to the source base station.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the one or more second messages comprise an indication of a sequence number transmitter status of downlink data packets between the source base station and the wireless device.

7. The method of any one of claims 4 to 6 wherein the one or more second messages comprise respective messages comprising indications of the receive and/or sequence number transmitter statuses for downlink packets and uplink packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

8. The method of any one of claims 4 to 7, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a sequence number of a data packet which has been transmitted but not received.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a sequence number of the earliest data packet which has been transmitted but not received.

10. The method of any one of claims 4 to 9, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a bitmap identifying out-of-sequence data packets which have been transmitted but not received.

11. A method performed by a source base station (103) for handover of a wireless device (102) from the source base station to a target base station (104), the method comprising:

- receiving (513, 1701), from the target base station, a first message comprising an indication that a connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the indication that the connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established is an indication that handover of the wireless device to the target base station is complete.

13. The method of claim 11 or 12, further comprising:

- causing transmission (506, 516, 1702), to the target base station, of one or more second messages, the one or more second messages comprising an indication of a receive status of data packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the one or more second messages comprise an indication of a receive status of uplink data packets transmitted from the wireless device to the source base station .

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the one or more second messages comprise an indication of a sequence number transmitter status of downlink data packets between the source base station and the wireless device.

16. The method of any one of claims 13 to 15 wherein the one or more second messages comprise respective messages comprising indications of the receive and/or sequence number transmitter statuses for downlink packets and uplink packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

17. The method of any one of claims 14 to 16, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a sequence number of a data packet which has been transmitted but not received.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a sequence number of the earliest data packet which has been transmitted but not received.

19. The method of any one of claims 13 to 18, wherein the indication of the receive status of data packets comprises a bitmap identifying out-of-sequence data packets which have been transmitted but not received.

20. The method of any one of claims 13 to 19, wherein the one or more second messages are transmitted subsequent to receipt of the first message.

21. The method of any one of claims 11 to 20, further comprising, subsequent to receipt of the first message, refraining (515) from transmitting data packets to the wireless device.

22. A base station (660) operative to perform the method of any of the preceding claims.

23. A base station, comprising:

- processing circuitry (670) configured to cause the base station, when configured as a target base station for handover of a wireless device from a source base station, to cause transmission, to the source base station, of a first message comprising an indication that a connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established;

- power supply circuitry (687) configured to supply power to the base station.

24. The base station of claim 23, wherein the first message is transmitted upon the wireless device establishing a connection with the target base station.

25. The base station of claim 23 or 24, wherein the indication that the connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established is an indication that handover of the wireless device to the target base station is complete.

26. The base station of any one of claims 23 to 25, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to cause the base station to:

- receive one or more second messages from the source base station, the one or more second messages comprising an indication of a receive status of data packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

27. A base station, comprising:

- processing circuitry (670) configured to cause the base station, when configured as a source base station for handover of a wireless device from the source base station to a target base station, to receive, from the target base station, a first message comprising an indication that a connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established;

- power supply circuitry (687) configured to supply power to the base station.

28. The base station of claim 27, wherein the indication that the connection between the wireless device and the target base station has been established is an indication that handover of the wireless device to the target base station is complete.

29. The base station of claim 27 or 28, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to cause the base station to:

- cause transmission, to the target base station, of one or more second messages, the one or more second messages comprising an indication of a receive status of data packets transmitted between the source base station and the wireless device.

30. The base station of any one of claims 27 to 29, wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to cause the base station to, subsequent to receipt of the first message, refrain from transmitting data packets to the wireless device.
