A graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition is provided for forming graphene-PET containers. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate composition includes a continuous matrix comprising polyethylene terephthalate and a dispersed reinforcement phase comprising graphene nanoplatelets. The graphene nanoplatelets range in diameter between 5 μm and 10 μm with surface areas ranging from about 15 m2/g to about 150 m2/g. In some embodiments, the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate comprises a concentration of graphene nanoplatelets being substantially 3% weight fraction of the graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate. The graphene reinforced polyethylene terephthalate is configured to be injection molded into a graphene-PET preform suitable for forming a container. The graphene- PET preform is configured to be reheated above its glass transition temperature and blown into a mold so as to shape the graphene-PET preform into the container.

Cette invention concerne une composition de polyéthylène téréphtalate renforcée par du graphène pour former des récipients à base de PET/graphène. La composition de polyéthylène téréphtalate renforcé par du graphène comprend une matrice continue comprenant du polyéthylène téréphtalate et une phase de renforcement dispersée comprenant des nano-plaquettes de graphène. Les nano-plaquettes de graphène ont un diamètre qui va de 5 µm à 10 µm avec des superficies allant d'environ 15 m2/g à envion 150 m3/g. Selon certains modes de réalisation, le polyéthylène téréphtalate renforcé par du graphène comprend une concentration de nano-plaquettes de graphène qui est sensiblement inférieure à une fraction de 3 % en poids du polyéthylène téréphtalate renforcé par du graphène. Le polyéthylène téréphtalate renforcé par du graphène est conçu pour être moulé par injection en une préforme de PET/graphène appropriée pour former un récipient. La préforme de PET/graphène est configurée pour être réchauffée au-dessus de sa température de transition vitreuse et soufflée dans un moule de façon à façonner la préforme de PET/graphène en le récipient.
