Abstract

A method of newborn screening ("NBS") is disclosed comprising directing ultrasonic energy or ultrasonic waves into a metabolite or analyte sample derived from a newborn, neonate or infant so as to cause a mist of charged sample droplets or sample ions to be ejected. The charged sample droplets or sample ions are then mass analysed and a determination is made as to whether or not one or more first metabolites or analytes indicative of a disorder or inborn error are present in the sample.

L'invention concerne l'application d'une ionisation de brume acoustique (AMI) et d'une spectrométrie de masse à un test de caillot sanguin séché de nouveau-né. Un procédé de dépistage néonatal ("NBS") consiste à diriger de l'énergie ultrasonore ou des ondes ultrasonores dans un métabolite ou un échantillon d'analyte dérivé d'un nouveau-né ou nourrisson de façon à provoquer l'éjection d'un brouillard de gouttelettes d'échantillon ou d'ions d'échantillon chargés. Les gouttelettes d'échantillon ou ions d'échantillon chargés sont ensuite analysés en masse et l'on détermine si un ou plusieurs premiers métabolites ou analytes indiquant un trouble ou une erreur innée sont présents dans l'échantillon.
