Solar canopy structures are composed of multiple solar panels and used to collect solar energy. The geometry of the solar panels within a solar canopy structure is modified to reduce wind loading on the structure. The geometry is modified by slightly tilting the individual solar panels in opposite directions. Wind loading on the unique solar panel geometry is tested using a wind tunnel to obtain actual wind loads instead of estimated wind loads. Reduced wind loads lead to reduced loads on the support structure, therefore lighter weight members can be used to construct the support structure. Smaller foundation structures can be used to support solar canopy structures with these alterations. Foundation structures can include an above grade ballasted foundation, a below grade spread footer foundation, a driven pile foundation, a helical pile foundation, or a ground screw foundation.

Selon la présente invention, des structures d'auvent solaire sont composées de multiples panneaux solaires et utilisées pour collecter de l'énergie solaire. La géométrie des panneaux solaires au sein d'une structure d'auvent solaire est modifiée pour réduire la charge due au vent sur la structure. La géométrie est modifiée en inclinant légèrement les panneaux solaires individuels dans des directions opposées. La charge due au vent sur la géométrie unique de panneaux solaires est testée à l'aide d'une soufflerie pour obtenir des charges dues au vent réelles au lieu de charges dues au vent estimées. Des charges dues au vent réduites aboutissent à des charges réduites sur la structure porteuse, par conséquent des éléments plus légers peuvent être utilisés pour construire la structure porteuse. Des structures de fondations plus petites peuvent être utilisées pour supporter les structures d'auvent solaire avec ces modifications. Des structures de fondations peuvent comprendre une fondation lestée au niveau haut, une fondation de semelle étalée au niveau bas, une fondation de pieux foncés, une fondation de pieux en hélice, ou une fondation à vis de terre.
