A flame retardant polymer composite is provided herein, comprising a thermoset binder such as a polyurethane binder, incorporated with a melamine-modified ammonium polyphosphate, wherein the thermoset binder comprises more than one isocyanate groups, wherein one or more of the isocyanate groups each forms a urea linkage with the melamine- modified ammonium polyphosphate, and elastomer particles such as ground rubber particles bound together by the thermoset binder. Its method of producing includes providing a dispersion comprising a melamine-modified ammonium polyphosphate and a thermoset binder, wherein the thermoset binder comprises more than one isocyanate groups, mixing the dispersion, elastomer particles, and water, to form a mixture, wherein the elastomer particles are encapsulated with the thermoset binder in the mixture, and curing the mixture to have one or more of the isocyanate groups each forming a urea linkage with the melamine-modified ammonium polyphosphate, thereby producing the flame retardant polymer composite.

L'invention concerne un composite polymère ignifuge comprenant un liant thermodurci tel qu'un liant de polyuréthane, incorporé à un polyphosphate d'ammonium modifié avec la mélamine, le liant thermodurci comprenant plus d'un groupe isocyanate, un ou plusieurs des groupes isocyanate formant chacun une liaison urée avec le polyphosphate d'ammonium modifié avec la mélamine, et des particules d'élastomère telles que du caoutchouc broyé, liées ensemble par le liant thermodurci. Son procédé de production consiste à fournir une dispersion comprenant un polyphosphate d'ammonium modifié avec la mélamine et un liant thermodurci, le liant thermodurci comprenant plus d'un groupe isocyanate, à mélanger la dispersion, des particules d'élastomère et de l'eau, pour former un mélange, les particules d'élastomère étant encapsulées avec le liant thermodurci dans le mélange, et à durcir le mélange pour obtenur un ou plusieurs des groupes isocyanate formant chacun une liaison urée avec le polyphosphate d'ammonium modifié avec la mélamine, ce qui permet de produire le composite polymère ignifuge.
