An optical waveguide element that can reduce coupling loss at a part that is coupled to an optical fiber and that can reduce transmission loss at an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide element is characterized by comprising a support substrate and a waveguide layer that is laminated on the support substrate and comprises a material that has an electro-optical effect. The optical waveguide element is also characterized in that a rib part that is for forming an optical waveguide protrudes from an upper surface of the waveguide layer, a groove part is formed in an upper surface of the support substrate directly below a portion of the rib part, and the groove part is filled with a material that has about the same effective refractive index as the material of the waveguide layer.

L'invention concerne un élément de guide d'ondes optique qui peut réduire la perte de couplage au niveau d'une partie qui est couplée à une fibre optique et qui peut réduire la perte de transmission au niveau d'un guide d'ondes optique. L'élément de guide d'ondes optique est caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend un substrat de support et une couche de guide d'ondes qui est stratifiée sur le substrat de support et comprend un matériau qui a un effet électro-optique. L'élément de guide d'ondes optique est également caractérisé en ce qu'une partie de nervure qui est destinée à former un guide d'ondes optique fait saillie à partir d'une surface supérieure de la couche de guide d'ondes, une partie de rainure est formée dans une surface supérieure du substrat de support directement au-dessous d'une partie de la partie de nervure, et la partie de rainure est remplie d'un matériau qui a environ le même indice de réfraction effectif que le matériau de la couche de guide d'ondes.

光ファイバとの結合部における結合損失を低減させることが可能となり、光導波路における伝搬損失を低減させることが可能となる光導波路素子を提供するため、光導波路素子は、支持基板と、該支持基板上に積層された電気光学効果を有する材料からなる導波層とを備えており、光導波路を形成するためのリブ部が導波層上面に突出して設けられており、リブ部の一部の直下において、支持基板上面に溝部が形成されており、溝部には、導波層の材料と同程度の実効屈折率を有する材料が充填されていることを特徴とする。
