An apparatus and method enables hand tracking using a mobile communication device in an augmented reality system. The system includes a mobile communication device that is configured to transmit an ultrasound frequency signal and inertial measurement data. The augmented reality glasses apparatus is configured to detect the ultrasound frequency signal and inertial measurement data from the mobile communication device and determine at least a position and orientation of the mobile communication device based on the detected ultrasound frequency signal and the detected rotation. The mobile communication device is used as a six degrees of freedom controller for tracking hand movements and interfacing with augmented reality glasses.

L'invention concerne un appareil et un procédé qui permettent un suivi des mains à l'aide d'un dispositif de communication mobile dans un système de réalité augmentée. Le système comprend un dispositif de communication mobile qui est configuré pour émettre un signal à fréquence ultrasonore et des données de mesure inertielle. L'appareil de lunettes de réalité augmentée est configuré pour détecter le signal à fréquence ultrasonore et les données de mesure inertielle provenant du dispositif de communication mobile et déterminer au moins une position et une orientation du dispositif de communication mobile sur la base du signal à fréquence ultrasonore détecté et de la rotation détectée. Le dispositif de communication mobile est utilisé comme dispositif de commande à six degrés de liberté pour suivre les mouvements des mains et établir une interface avec des lunettes de réalité augmentée.
