A system and method of decoding a transform block for a colour channel of an image frame from a video bitstream. The method comprises determining a chroma format of the image frame, the chroma format having chroma channels of the image frame being subsampled relative to a luma channel of the image frame; determining a coefficient group size of the transform block, the coefficient group size being a largest area of the transform block of up to 16 samples, the coefficient group size being determined based only on the transform block size and independent of both (i) a colour plane of the transform block and (ii) colour plane subsampling due to the determined chroma format; and decoding the transform block using coefficient groups of the determined size from the video bitstream

L'invention concerne un système et un procédé de décodage d'un bloc de transformée, pour un canal de couleur d'une image, issu d'un flux binaire vidéo. Le procédé comprend la détermination d'un format de chrominance de l'image, le format de chrominance ayant des canaux de chrominance de l'image qui sont sous-échantillonnés par rapport à un canal de luminance de l'image ; la détermination d'une taille de groupe de coefficients du bloc de transformée, la taille de groupe de coefficients étant une zone la plus grande du bloc de transformée allant jusqu'à 16 échantillons, la taille de groupe de coefficients étant déterminée uniquement sur la base de la taille de bloc de transformée et indépendante aussi bien (i) d'un plan de couleur du bloc de transformée que (ii) d'un sous-échantillonnage du plan de couleur dû au format de chrominance déterminé ; et le décodage du bloc de transformée à l'aide de groupes de coefficients de la taille déterminée issus du flux binaire vidéo.
