A method for video coding is provided. The method includes: partitioning video pictures into a plurality of coding units (CUs), at least one of which is further partitioned into two prediction units (PUs) including at least one triangular shaped PU; constructing a first merge list including a plurality of candidates, each being a motion vector, based on a merge list construction process for regular merge prediction; and constructing a uni-directional prediction merge list for the triangular shaped PU using at least a subset of the candidates in the first merge list.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de codage vidéo. Le procédé comprend : le partitionnement d’images vidéo en une pluralité d’unités de codage (CU), dont au moins une est en outre partitionnée en deux unités de prédiction (PU) incluant au moins une PU de forme triangulaire ; l’établissement d’une première liste de fusions incluant une pluralité de candidats, chaque candidat étant un vecteur de mouvement, sur la base d’un processus d’établissement de liste de fusions pour prédiction de fusion régulière ; et l’établissement d’une liste de fusions de prédictions unidirectionnelles pour la PU de forme triangulaire à l’aide d’au moins un sous-ensemble des candidats dans la première liste de fusions.
