The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for reducing metal artifacts in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) reconstructions. The methods use multiple imaging modalities to identify and locate metal present in a region of dental patient's mouth and to generate a reconstructed 3-D volume image of the region with reduced metal artifacts using data obtained by the multiple modalities. According to example embodiments, the methods include creating a metal map using data from a first imaging modality and an initial 3-D reconstruction from data obtained from a second imaging modality including CBCT imaging. The metal map is registered to the initial 3-D reconstruction with a reconstructed metal map and projection metal maps being subsequently produced and applied to projections from the CBCT imaging to generate interpolated projections. An artifact reduced 3-D reconstruction is produced from the interpolated projections and a final 3-D reconstruction is created therefrom including merged metal information.

La présente invention concerne des procédés et des appareils de réduction des artéfacts métalliques dans des reconstructions de tomodensitométrie à faisceau conique (CBCT). Les procédés utilisent de multiples modalités d’imagerie pour identifier et localiser le métal présent dans une région de la bouche d’un patient dentaire et pour générer une image reconstruite en volume 3D de la région grâce à des artéfacts métalliques réduits en utilisant les données obtenues par les multiples modalités. En fonction des modes de réalisation indicatifs, les procédés consistent à créer un carte de métal en utilisant les données provenant d’une première modalité d’imagerie et une reconstruction 3D initiale à partir des données obtenues à partir d’une seconde modalité d’imagerie comprenant l’imagerie CBCT. La carte de métal est enregistrée à la reconstruction 3D initiale grâce à une carte de métal reconstruite et les cartes de métal de projection étant par la suite produites et appliquées aux projections à partir de l’imagerie CBCT afin de générer des projections interpolées. Une reconstruction 3D à artéfacts réduits est produite à partir des projections interpolées et une reconstruction 3D finale est créée à partir de ces dernières comprenant des informations de métaux fusionnées.
