Abstract

A high-temperature solid oxide fuel cell arrangement fueled by a hydrogen or hydrocarbon fuel and generating electricity and ammonia as a byproduct comprises: (a) a cathode area fed with a humid air; (b) an anode area fed with the fuel; and (c) an oxygen- conducting electrolyte disposed between the cathode and anode areas. The cathode has an ammonia-rich tail-gas stream. The fuel cell further comprises a gas separator configured for separating ammonia generated on the cathode from tail-gas stream and means for utilizing separated ammonia selected from the group consisting of: an ammonia reformer configured for generating hydrogen to be admixed to the fuel fed to the anode, a collecting tank for storing the ammonia and an auxiliary solid oxide fuel cell fueled by the separated ammonia and any combination thereof.

L'invention concerne un agencement de pile à combustible à oxyde solide à haute température alimenté par un combustible à base d'hydrogène ou d'hydrocarbure et générant de l'électricité et de l'ammoniac en tant que sous-produit comprenant : (a) une zone de cathode alimentée en air humide ; (b) une zone d'anode alimentée en combustible ; et (c) un électrolyte conducteur d'oxygène disposé entre les zones de cathode et d'anode. La cathode présente un flux de gaz résiduaire riche en ammoniac. La pile à combustible comprend en outre un séparateur de gaz configuré pour séparer l'ammoniac généré sur la cathode à partir du flux de gaz résiduaire et des moyens pour utiliser l'ammoniac séparé choisi dans le groupe constitué par : un reformeur d'ammoniac configuré pour générer de l'hydrogène à mélanger au combustible alimentant l'anode, un réservoir de collecte pour stocker l'ammoniac et une pile à combustible à oxyde solide auxiliaire alimentée par l'ammoniac séparé et toute combinaison de ceux-ci.
